ESPN Profit Plummets As Network Turns Left

Last week on SC 6 and on another program on ESPN they had a guest who is an African American author named Michael Eric Dyson who wrote a book titled:
TEARS WE CANNOT STOP: A Sermon to White America.

Somebody please explain why the hell he would be a guest on SPORTScenter or any other program on ESPN.

Simple:

- Their non-live sports programming is irrelevant and obsolete because of the internet, social media, and smartphones.
- They are looking for ways to make said programming relevant again.
- They analyzed their target demographic (predominantly males 18-35) and in an attempt to cater to them have shifted said programming away from sports highlights and analysis to talking about what is happening on social media, pop culture references, TMZ-type stories involving superstar athletes, and inject some liberal politics because this age demo leans liberal (sports fans in general do not, but their target demo does).

So, after cutting a ton of their sports staff/personalities across all sports, ESPN has decided that poetry on the "new feminism" is a priority at the moment. In their own words....

"In honor of National Poetry month, espnW asked five poets to reflect on resistance, redefining feminism and movement"

I know many are arguing that ESPNs struggles have nothing to do with their obvious, deliberative, strategic move to incorporate left wing politics into literally every decision they take, every thing they publish, every segment they produce. But I'm telling you now, I've gone from having Sportscenter and ESPN to being my default channel for 25-30 years to actively, consciously avoiding the channel 99% of the time now because of the crap they spew.

If I want politics in general I know where to get it and I'm one of the overwhelming majority of Americans to avoid social justice crap 24/7. I've always relied on sports and sports programming to get me away from it and now that ESPN has made politics and leftist social awareness it's number one priority and identity, I refuse to have anything to do with them unless I'm forced to watch a game on one if their channels.....and even then, I've become very discerning about which games I "need" or "forced" to watch. I know longer watch a game, any game, just because it's on.....if it's on ESPN. Anybody who thinks that ESPN's change in business model and strategy has nothing to do with many people choosing to cord cut and stop watching the espn channels is in strong, strong denial.

I've gone from being one of their most loyal customers/watchers/fans for a quarter century to one someone who actively avoids those arrogant a-holes like the plague.
I watch some Finebaum. He's not pushing the lefty agenda. As far as the flagship, the deuce, and the news go, I just think they suck compared to what they once were. They cannot replicate the originality, humor and timing of their heyday.

Was just about to post something about this, the other night they had a guy on talking about his book Black Privilege.

The layoffs are an attempt to buy time to figure out a new strategy in an era of cord cutting. In the meantime, they are doubling down on what they have turned their network into, which is a hot take/progressive political pot stirring network. This is their strategy for making their non-live sports programming relevant again. ESPN went left wing because of cord cutting, not the other way around.

Actual reporters like Katz and McMurphy don't fit that mold, so naturally that is where they look to cut people. Look at the people we know they let go yesterday; none of the names laid off are hot take artists.

Hard to argue your point when you look at the list.

Definitely seem to be doubling down on stupid.

Glad Lebatard and Stugotz are safe. How can ESPN let some of these guys go and retain Michael, Jemele, and Sarah Spain? Sarah auctioned herself off for a free Super Bowl trip but is quick to tell people not to objectify women

Stugotz needs his own network.

That's ridiculous. The whole premise of his argument is just dumb. I don't understand why Michael and Jemelle even have these types of guests on their show. I think they are both very intelligent people, but I just don't agree with a lot of their political leanings. The same with Bomani, and I had a very good working relationship with him about 10 years ago.

As a very liberal thinking man I would have to agree with a lot of what has been said. SC6 sucks, Caitlyn Jenner at the ESPYs was a bad joke, and their programming has gotten worse over the years. They've made baseball unwatchable for goodness sakes. The only things remotely decent are 30 for 30 and PTI when Tony and Wilson are on.

As for the guy who made the liberalism is a disease comment feel free to crawl back under your nonprogressive rock. Yeh, we have some bad, annoying apples but so do "conservatives."

Who is the overweight, short, older lady?

The one who used to have blonde hair and now she's basically shaved it?

Please tell me she's gone.

Yep, classy.

It's also fun to take delight in people losing their jobs. Take this thread for instance.

On the other hand we could delight in capitalism working. A bad product is not being consumed and they are being forced to change. And they may reorganize, change, and improve.

The interesting thing about Finebaum is that he actually does know SEC football and will occasionally have guests on his show who do (McElroy, Booger, Marcus Spears, etc.).

The act of letting idiots call in and spout their crap is more attention-grabbing though, so that is what he is known for.

Always great to comment on the physical appearance, particularly the hairstyle, of someone undergoing radiation treatments.

I think it's pretty obvious I wasn't aware that's why she shaved her hair.
