ESPN Reporting Bama has Hired Lane Kiffin

Really surprised that Kiffin would do this to us. I thought he had more respect for UT than to join our most hated rival.

Kiffin was perceived to play fast and loose recruiting at UTK and maybe he did push the envelope but I recall any severe sanctions. He didn't have to use those tactics at USC so he dropped his act. He won't need to resort to hostesses and helicopters to recruit to Bama.

He did deflate footballs and do the old jersey switch plus a few things I can't recall. Saban will keep him in in check or he will be gone. It's sabans way or the highway. This may even keep recruits from coming to Bama. Kiffin lost a lot of respect from recruits and others.

Kiffin isn't a bad hire because he's a bad OC. Kiffin's a bad hire because he plays fast and loose with the rules of recruiting. Mixing that with a program that's gotten in trouble for doing just that in the past is begging for trouble. He's gonna be a distraction for Saban because there's no way in hell Saban trusts Kiffin to keep his nose clean. It goes against his nature. I just don't see a good chemistry with the coaching personalities. Again, it's not that Kiffin is a bad OC, but he's one of the few coaches out there who's ego surpasses the Crimson Napoleon. Long term, I just don't see it being a good fit.

Bama fans don't remember the probation years, as a lot of them only became fans during the Nick Saban era

Fulmer hurt us in his final years. What Kiffin did to us crippled us. We could have recovered from the end of the Fulmer era but when Kiffin bolted and all of his recruits did too - it set us back years.

What really hurt UT was when Kiffin destroyed UT's roster by running off many of Fulmer's players because he thought they were good enough to play for him. He immediately destroyed the depth on both sides of the ball, and Dooley never recruited good enough to fix the problem.

He was here less than a year and was part of the NCAAs investigation. And I guess if limiting the number of OVs for potential recruits is not severe then you and I will have to agree to disagree. USC was hit as hard as they were due to Kiffin and Orgeron being linked to the Reggie Bush scandal and returning to the scene of the crime. Kiffin has never cared about rules and thinks he's too cool for school because of who his daddy is and how he was probably perceived growing up. He's a spoiled rich kid who was born on 3rd base and acted like he hit a triple, nothing more.

Thankfully, he was only here a year, so the things he did do, he covered his tracks. The longer you're in one place, the more time evidence has time to pile up. What did come out, he pinned on others, including his own brother-in-law. Man has so much character he threw his wife's brother under the bus.

When he returned to USC, he toned down his tactics because he had to. The NCAA was watching him like a hawk. He couldn't afford to screw up.

The first time he was at USC, he was employing every tactic in the book. Reggie Bush was what they were nailed for, but he was just the tip of the iceberg.

Kiffin is dirty. He's good at covering his tracks, but the longer you perpetuate a lie, the more likely it is to unravel. He doesn't know any other way to play than by bending the rules, and if he's not careful, he will get caught. Old-school bammers should be concerned.

New bammers probably laugh, thinking they've smacked us in the face with this hire. Personally, I don't care if he's their OC. I'm just giving my opinion of the man. He's not a bad OC, but he doesn't worry me either. He's beatable, just like any coach. But any bammer that doesn't know their school's history of probation is living in fantasyland. Hiring him is like asking for a hooker to give you herpes.

Oh this is just too good.

What is? The fact that he gets to kick us squarely in the pills again... every year now? For those that believe he will be the harbinger of decline at Bama, you better steel yourselves.....

Does having no hope of ever seeing UT win again totally suck? I'd imagine it would. Kiffin is just a coach. He's not Superman. Dude, can be beat. He had plenty of talent at USC and was losing. And the only way I personally have said he's the harbinger of decline for bama is if they don't put a handler on the guy when he's recruiting. His football acumen is good, his character is not. His lack of character in regards to recruiting is why the NCAA will always keep a watchful eye upon him. Any true bammers know that's not a good thing. But hell, what do I care if they end up on probation again.

Where are the regular Bama posters at? I want to hear their opinion of the hire. Any tide fans concerned with the scrutiny on the recruiting trail Kiffin will bring with him? I'm willing to concede he's a good hire as an OC, but there's more to being a college coach than what happens on the field. It's off the field where the problems will be.

Saban knows what he is doing...I trust him, like others

Like it or not, Kiffy will beat us soundly next season.

OTOH, if we are still karma's b!tch, Orgeron goes to Vandy just in time to dirty recruit against us.

OH goodness, Orgeron to Vandy hadn't crossed my mind yet. Would make so much sense. Especially now with Kiff at Bama. Good hire if Vandy were to do it. Good call if you are right! :eek:k:

LOL! Kiffin is just what the doctor ordered to accelerate the tide slide! Kiffin is so aloof, egotistical, and devoid of people skills that he will create dissension on the red ripple staff just as he has everywhere he has been. He may not be head coach, but he will (mis)manage the coaches who coach the tide offense, half the team. If assistants think saban is hard to get along with, wait til they are under Kiffin. The players will sense he doesn't care about them. Couldn't happen to better folks, though.
:)

Odds are certainly in their favor regarding next year, but the OP I responded to was acting like we'll never beat Bama again. Kiffin is a good OC, but he's not that damn good.
