Florida's DC Charlie Strong. It's not surprising but what does it mean for us, recruiting wise.

YES!!! I think it hurts their recruiting somewhat...they are still the hot ticket in the nation right now..this should change things..we should be able to scoop up a couple defensive recruits from them..does any1 know any that were close to commiting to us but chose FU?

Helps us with who? T Rex and lots of those guys we were not getting.

I do not think it sways R Powell. I do not think it helps us get D Riley.

Elam? His relationship is supposed to be with CUM primarily.

It could help us, but I do not think I can say any one player specifically.

Meyer has know this day was coming for a minute so the only real target Strong had this year was Luc and that's because of their tight relationship. If you look at Rivals, real problem for UF will come from Billy G or Bedford leaving to join his staff. They have been the most successful recruiters over the last two years IMO.

recruiting wise, i'm not sure. it will be huge on the field next year though, because i am sure they will not bring in a d coordinator that is better than charlie strong. glad to see him out of the swamp and good luck to him

Whats the possibility of that happeneing?

Does Gonzo feel like his shot as OC at UF has passed?

Not sure but I think its 50/50 he stays or leaves but if the rumors of him taking over the passing game in the Sugar Bowl are true, I think UF knows the need to name him Co-OC to keep him from UL also some rumors that UCF may make run at him for OC.

It's not the fallout of Gran or Wilson. Most are supporting the coach who has given so much to the program but a few fans are bashing him for leaving because of the beat down. But ALL of us knew this day was coming. I expected it last year but he was looking for a BCS job so the wait didn't hurt him IMO.

Thanks. From what I understand he will be cranking out some solid teams. What are the rumors as to who will replace him?

It is a long time coming for Charlie and a few schools in the SEC will probably kick themselves for not giving him a chance. As far as this thread goes, it doesn't mean a thing. They will get another big time DC and start prepping him for a HC job. Just like we are finally doing after how many years?:)

But wouldn't it benefit Thompson more to have 2 to 3 years with Monte before making a move like that? I thought that was one of the reasons that he came to UT in the first place!

Yeah I saw that on a UF board also. That's out of left field because its been rumored that he would take Billy G and Chuck Heater but looking over his resume it's not a bad move on Charlie's part but its not way Lane lets him get away with all his GA, AL connections plus Strong has recruited the carolinas, va and ky well while he was at USCjr. If Thompson comes UL could land some good players.

I think his choice from outside would be Greg Madison so unless something happen in Bmore he will name Mcarthy DC, he has the resume and he's been at the hip with Charlie the last two season. After Bama we need to get tougher up front so his BIG 10 seasoning at Wisc make him a GREAT fit imo.
