There were two long articles that more or less said he is a lying SOB that shouldn't be trusted by anyone including Arky...

Is this what coaching college football has come to?

We all know what Saban did..."I am not and will not be the coach of Bama...LOL"

We all know the issues with Les Miles....I personnally think he would be at Michigan now or in a few weeks if Herbstreet hadn't jumped the gun on announcing it...

And with all this stuff about Petrino...is there no decency, honesty, loyalty, or integrity left in division one college football coaching anymore

I think the rampant coaching salaries are partially to blame for a lot of the seemingly lack of integrity left in collegiate coaching. These coaches are put up on high pedestals, revered, and thrown considerably exorbitant sums of money to win football games. They become bigger than life. So, what you are seeing in the Sabans and Petrinos are mercenary coaches who are willing to go to the highest bidder. This doesn't mean the fraternity of coaches in general are all like this, but the atmosphere of major college football helps foster these types of narcissistic personalities. Miles is a slightly different story in my opinion because that is his alma mater, and I think any of us who have graduated from or identify with the University of Tennessee can relate to his predicament.

Well, that's precisely why it's great to have CPF instead of having gone done the road to hire one of these swindlers. Surely, recruits will start recognizing these individuals for the character they obviously lack.

Go Fulmer! Go Vols!:)

I agree. For all of Phil's faults....he's as loyal as they come. Love or hate him, but you cannot deny the man bleeds orange for life.

There is an argument to be made that this information generation created this monster.

The impatience, and subsequent rapid and rabid outcry of fans and media to an absense of championships in a program... Has created a bull market for coaches who look like the next better man for their program. Cost goes up along with opportunity. Saying these guys shouldn't listen defies logic.

Phil's lack of outside offers surely contributes to his 'loyalty'

Why on earth would another outside school as you speak of even think of coming after Fulmer?

There would be no reason to even if he was considered the best coach in the county. He loves UT and makes it very clear.

As does yours BPV. Always here... usually wrong!

Again, no one but negavols would think of Fulmer as being disloyal to the program, so why would they try to hire him? How many times did you hear JoPa's name come up for HC positions over the years--even when he was in his prime? How many fools would have tried to recruit the Bear from Bama? He's here to stay for the "FORESEEABLE FUTURE." As it should be....

Just go ahead and admit the flaws in your lust for another coach.

At the height of his career Phil didn't just up and leave for NFL money, or jump ship to a school willing to pay him more. The lack of outside interest is more attributable to his lack of interest in moving on. He has never presented himself as anything other than a Tennessee loyalist his entire career, and so why would other schools come knocking? The man has his dream job, and is payed very well for doing it. Your backhanded slight on Fulmer is certainly noted however, but what else is new?

Anything ESPN is for I'd have trouble supporting it.

You would be kidding yourself if you thought other schools weren't interested during his heyday in the 90s, but that era was different for coach hopping any way.

Phillip Fulmer has had exactly the same number of offers to be an NFL head coach that Hal Mumme has received.

Man....

I don't know how many of you watch SportsCenter but I saw it at lunch where they interviewed the Falcons players...

I don't know if they could have ripped him any worse than they did...they called his honesty, loyalty...even his manhood into question...

And I think everything I heard them say was right on the money...

Petrino is dispicable...if this was the first time it would be bad enough but this guy has a history of doing these sorts of things...

He even tried to backdoor his former mentor at Auburn when he tried to sneak Turbeville's job from him

Dead on. The problem is systemic. Schools bow to pressure and dump coaches. Fans scream for change and the media trumpets every single gory detail and badgers coaches and administrations to make statements.

Coaches are only one part of the problem.

BTW - I still don't like Saban :)
