Little blurb fron an espn article this morning. Lists the Vols as team on the rise. Scroll down...

RISING:

4. Tennessee: The Volunteers might not have enough depth or talent on the lines to compete in the SEC this season, but they're making big strides under coach Butch Jones. The Vols moved to 2-0 by beating Arkansas State 34-19 at home. They're talented enough to beat a team or two they're not supposed to defeat this season.

UT fans reaching at anything trying to prove we are an improved team

Only thing that will prove it is how we square up against our SEC competition

Wow I didn't know Mich hadn't been shutout since 84. I bet they are wanting Brady's head in Ann Arbor

Because anyone can write a fluff piece at anytime

I can write one right now that says Vandy is on the rise with Mason, point to various reasons why I think so, and Vandy fans would lap it up like a cat laps up milk.

So you don't think this team is getting better? Not at all?

We have improved in the following areas

Recruiting, Amount of dropped balls by our WRs, QB play, speed on defense, pass blocking

We have not improved in these areas

Run blocking, special teams, offensive play calling( variety of play calls on offense and creativeness on offense)

Now, we are about to see how well we actually have improved on defense when the speed of the teams we play and talent vastly improves

so then, by definition, we are a team on the rise. Huh, how about that.

Did you even read what was written?

That's not fluff. That's a pretty realistic observation from a sportswriter for a change. And one that historically has been anti-UT.

And furthermore, something a lot of posters on here have been saying for months.

Status quo

Same thing at this point last year

So we've improved in a number of areas, but we're the same as we were last year. Hmmmm. Must be easy to be a cop if that actually makes sense in your head. I know it's easy to be an MP so I guess the same is said for the civilian side.

You used to be one of my more favorite posters. Now you're pushing the ignore list. I think I only have like two active posters on there.

Cool

Well, I'm not in the business of making you feel happy about this team with my posts

Feel free to believe anything you want and find satisfaction in reading anything you want that makes you feel better

When we go into Norman, and come out with a win or respectable showing, then I will improve my outlook on the status of this team

If we lose and get embarrassed, then we really haven't improved much and we get our asses handed to us at Georgia and Florida beats us again, then its back to " Wait until next year"

Seriously Count? Anybody who has any kind of observational skills at all can see the huge strides this program has made in the past 2 years. You can't fix in 2 years what's been broken for 10.

There was nothing unrealistic in that article and no "Rah, Rah The Vols are GREAT!" in it either. You're just b**ching to listen to yourself b**ch now.:ermm:

Let's revisit how everyone feels about this team after our next 3 games

Do you think we will run a vanilla offense at Oklahoma so Georgia doesn't have any game film to use against us?

C'mon Count, as far as actually expecting to compete with the nation's elite on a weekly basis is concerned everyone with any grasp of reality have been saying "Wait until next year" before this season even started. Preseason predictions had us fighting for a bowl birth, it's just the state of our roster at this point. Doesn't mean we can't be an improved team this year and even more so in the near future.

We are in contention for the playoff, just have to win the games on the schedule. If bama happens to be our only loss, I think we get in.

No, I think we'll pull out all the stops and every trick play in the arsenal because that's what this very young team will have to do to compete. And even then, it could be a blow-out...

Maybe it's the Chicago Cub fan in me that makes me patient with Butch and this team. No one like Cub fans truly understand the frustration of hearing "Wait til Next Year!" every year. But this team, like the Cubs, finally has leadership in place that is righting the ship from the ground up. Now when I say "....Next Year!" it actually means something.

What's the sense in being negative all the time? I just don't see the use. Something special and substantial is happening up on The Hill, IMO and I think it's foolish to miss the climb up just because I can't wait to get to the top.

But by all means...do you, man.
