Let's revisit how everyone feels about this team after our next 3 games

Do you think we will run a vanilla offense at Oklahoma so Georgia doesn't have any game film to use against us?

Glad I don't have this outlook in life. Must be miserable being you

C'mon Count, as far as actually expecting to compete with the nation's elite on a weekly basis is concerned everyone with any grasp of reality have been saying "Wait until next year" before this season even started. Preseason predictions had us fighting for a bowl birth, it's just the state of our roster at this point. Doesn't mean we can't be an improved team this year and even more so in the near future.

My question to some of you guys would be

If we go 5-7 again, what aspects of this team will determine whether or not you guys see it as an improved team?

For me, I will need to see closer games against Alabama, Florida. Close games again with Georgia and South Carolina. Possibly beating South Carolina again. We have to beat Kentucky and Vandy. A loss to Vandy again, which should be nearly impossible at this point, would be devastating.

I would also like to see us win a game on the road in the SEC. I don't consider Vandy a road win. Its basically a home field advantage for us this year. A win at Ole Miss would go a long ways in proving this teams improvement

Other than that, if we lose big to our rivals and can't beat a team we shouldn't, with a younger, but improved roster, then I can't call us an improved team

Actually Count I think these are reasonable expectations on your part. I do believe if we don't have injuries at the rate of Florida last year we will meet those requirements. I think we get either Mizu, Florida or South Carolina. With an outside shot at two if things fall right.

I'm not an unreasonable person

I just don't get all hyped up about beating teams we should always beat

Agreed. Would you agree that last years team would have dropped one of these first two or at the very least looked horrible while scaring us half to death?

That's a very easy answer. It's called depth and of which we have very little of at certain positions.

Let's face it, our skill positions at WR, TE, DB, LB and RB are pretty good at the moment. QB and D/O lines are the ones we have to get the depth into. Rome wasn't built in a day and a team cannot be completely rebuilt through a single recruiting class.

Owen Williams coming on yesterday was very encouraging.

This is actually fairly reasonable though GA looks to be pretty daunting.

IMO it comes down to reasonable expectations with what you have. There is absolutely a reason why this team, before the first snap of the season, was predicted by most everyone of a rational mind to consider being anything beyond bowl eligible very good indeed. It's simply the hard, cold facts of our roster vs our schedule.

1st order of business is address the "what you have" part. Happy upsets aside we aren't going to be competing for titles in this league until we can put experience and talent on the field comparable to our competition. So far this staff looks to be heading us in the right direction. Once we can face opposing teams with like rosters we'll see what becomes of things as our expectations should absolutely rise with the quality players we can field. If we're still losing...

I tend to agree with you. You make them mad because some want to believe we will win nine or ten games and they do not want to hear reality.

Reality is what you make...get back to me after the season concerning how real our record is...you know?...after it becomes such?

I guess the coaches should wave their collective magic wands and create a team that satisfies everone's idea of a perfect team. I personally feel the overall play from the team has improved. It blows my mind how some members of this fan base react. To respond to an earlier post, I will feel the same way about this team after the next three games as I do now. They have a chance to win the next game they play, and the next one.

I lived through the frustrations of going to UT during the early 80's, where the play calling of the coaches really drove you crazy! Mind numbing if we were in the 2nd half with anything resembling a lead.

Because anyone can write a fluff piece at anytime

I can write one right now that says Vandy is on the rise with Mason, point to various reasons why I think so, and Vandy fans would lap it up like a cat laps up milk.

No...no you couldn't. This is really dumb.

I don't care if we play every team to the wire, I will consider this season a disappointment if we go 5-7 again. CBJ said six wins is the goal, and there are six wins on this schedule. Some may be challenging... difficult... and ugly, but we have to find a way to win. We are a better team than last year, our freshmen will mature every game and we can get 6-7 wins... unless we lose half the team to injury, and even then, I'd like to see us continue to try.

This is the only "fan" board I frequent so it may be the same in other places but I've never seen so much negativity from so called "fans".

And it's not just about not wanting to hear about holes in our game, missteps & miscues...it's about how it's presented as near vitriol. I'd expect the same from some troll from a competitor's fan base.

No, don't blow sunshine but be part of the solution or stfu.

Not true. I don't believe that we will anything close to that this year, but I do believe that we are better, both in play and in attitude, and THAT is what must happen before we start reasonably expecting 9-10 wins.

I guess what surprises me about Count is that this "not impressed until we are top five" crap tends to come from younger people who don't grasp that things don't turn around overnight. I would think that he has seen enough to have more perspective. Unless that in fact he's seen so d@mn much in his line of work that he is stuck in pessimism now, which I could understand. :hi:

Relax. It's simply reality bill.

Once again, is it "reality" if it hasn't happened yet?... Your version would have Bama undefeated instead of with 4 losses the last three years.
