You were right in bringing up the Manning/Florida angle.
It was one thing that gave voters some excuse not to vote for him. Between that and ESPN reminding voters every 30 seconds that he did not beat Florida, he lost the Heisman.
Now, I disagree with that logic on voting a player up or down for the Heisman, but the fact that Peyton never beat Florida is a cloud that still hangs over his head.
You still hear tv guys talk about it a lot.
By natural extension, if Leak never beats the team who he was committed to play for, whose coach he openly and publicly criticized, then he'll forever be marked by that failure.
Peyton Manning is by far the most talented skill player to ever don the Orange, and as far as I'm concerned, he's the best QB in the history of the game, but the fact does remain, he never beat Florida.
And when he was playing SEC ball, they were the guage by which you measured yourself.
