ESPNU recruiting insider giving Tyler Bray mad love

Wouldn't him adding more weight effect his ability to scramble (not that he is a scrambler, he has excellent pocket presence.)

Yes, it should positively affect it assuming the weight game is do to strength gains. Stronger will make him quicker/faster. With the S&C program and passing workouts he needs to eat like he's never eaten before and drink a gallon of milk a day. There's no reason he shouldn't come into fall camp weighing a solid 230.

Every piece of film i've saw on him tells me he's got the tools to succeed. He has the mechanics down pretty good now and can put the ball where he wants it. He might not be ready for the SEC yet, probably needs a redshirt. Reminds me more of Mallet in his mechanics not Leinart like the Espn guy was talking about.

He is a thin frame and probably rated 3* because he has 3* arm strength. Videos of this kid at the Elite 8 show quickest release of all the QBs there. He drops back side by side w/ Scroggins and Heaps and holds the ball higher and releases it quicker.

Excited about him. Wondering who will coach him though.

I thought he was a 4 star, and I have never read anything about him lacking arm strength.

He is a 4 star now. Since he's an EE I don't think arm strength will be a problem come fall. Once our guys get him in the gym and on a workout routine he's gonna gain weight and get stronger... if he dedicates himself.

Oh, and ESPNU just mentiond Tennessee and DD doing an "outstanding job".

He has one of the strongest arms if not the strongest of this year's QB prospects.

Well as great as recruiting insider's opinions are, its what Dooley and Chaney think of him that matters. If Bray can't fit into what Chaney wants then who know's what kinda career he'll have.

Well, Chaney was around when Bray was recruited, so I would certainly hope that Chaney would have already considered that

I like Bray, let me say that first. However, just watching some bits of drill work and game cut ups that are available of him and Simms, they seem to be worlds apart. Simms release is higher and arm strength is better (note yardage isn't the big arm factor, but yardage on a line is the game changer).

You can watch and compare for yourself here:

It does seem that way on the video, however, I would say Simms may have more confidence in his accuracy at this point allowing him to throw the ball with his full arm strength on those straight line passes. Bray on the other hand may not have as much confidence in his accuracy therefore he tries to place some of those passes and as a result takes off some velocity.

Is there really a good chance of him starting as a true freshman? I would love to see it. I do want the best player on the field at their respective positions.

imo no. We are going to struggle in '10 and Stephens and Simms are both more gamne ready than him. I think Stephens will be the starter but it's going to be a battle with Simms. Simms has been impressing so far. He has thrown the ball much better than some (everyone except Kiffin and Chaney) thought he would especially coming back from a broke hand. He has good accuracy which is what Chaney really wants.
