I heard on the news there will be a press conference tomorrow deciding the future of etsu football. The football program was dropped back in 2003.

They need to play outdoors, not in a giant tin can like they did before. No one wants to watch a football game in a basketball facility.

I also heard that they were going to have to demolish the minidome due to safety precautions or something.

Mini-dome is not a basketball facility. it was more of a multi purpose building for all sports. ever since they built that new fitness center across the street, there really is no use for it now anyway.

good riddance to that thing. i hated it anyway.

yeah it was cool and state of the art when it was built, and it was the trend at the time for 1-AA and D2 colleges to make a all sports facility like that but alot of those teams are tearing them down now. ETSUs problem was they didnt keep it in good condition and now its falling apart so they can even get it approved to be safe.

ETSU's problem was they couldn't keep students around on the weekends to go to the games. the campus is a ghost town on weekends.

i used to hate it too because i never went home and there wasn't much to do but go to football or frat parties. heck, i didn't even have a car for half of my freshman year. however, my roomate went home every weekend so i had the place to myself for activities with ladies, before 12 midnight of course.:whistling:

Well their lookin to build a new stadium, and it was approved by the pres. Supposed to have a team by 2010.
I used to go to etsu football games a lot when i was younger. I got to see randy moss and chad pennington when etsu played marshall. I remember you couldnt see the receiver if he caught the ball on the sideline you were on.
They also use the facility for graduation and tennis.

they've got a lot of money to raise to get football back and from what i've understood, the students have to agree to pay more money in tuition. The Board of Regents also has to approve this raise in tuition, something some people say could be a huge stumbling block.

"Ten to fifteen million for a stadium" seams a little low. What kind of facilities can be built now days for that kind of money?

ETSU football going to 1-AA? The BB program is 1-A, can you split divisions in school like that?

There is no division 1-AA in basketball, so everybody has to do that.

they've always played 1-AA in football.

they were/are in the Southern Conference with Ga. Southern, Appy St, Citadel, Westen Carolina, Furman, and others for football.

i believe in basketball they are a member of the Coastal Conference with all the above schools plus College of Charlston and others for basketball.

i'd look it up but i'm at work.

i believe they've always played 1-A basketball.

there are far more 1-A basketball teams than 1-A football teams.

And prior to joining the Southern conference in the late 70's they played 1AA football in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Ahhh k, didn't realize there wasn't 1-AA BB. Shows how closely I follow BB. They're part of the Atlantic Sun for BB.

ETSU was in the Southern Conference for all sports until they dropped football. The SC essentially kicked them out after dropping football (some rule about having to have so many sports). They joined the Atlantic Sun Conference, consisting of teams such as Belmont, Campbell, Lipscomb, and the ever dangerous Stetson. It was an unwanted move by the ETSU athletic dept, but they had no say in the matter really. The The JC Press claims ETSU would (or at least try to) move back to the SC and rejoin Furman, Appy St, Ga Southern, and such when/if football comes back to ETSU. ETSU has a new plan for all kinds of new sports facilities, but that original plan did not include a new football stadium though.

The Southern Conference teams are all in the Southern Conference for all the major sports. some play other sports like wrestling, and i think one of the SC teams has a premiere equestrian team and they are different conferences for that, but baseball, basketball (men's and women's), softball, soccer, tennis, golf, etc, is all Southern Conference.

doozer, im lookin to go to ETSU next semester..you dont have to live on campus your freshman year do you?

no, we had a freshman roomate my second year there.

although, i lived in the dorms my freshman year and i wouldn't trade that experience for anything. i lived in Cooper Hall my freshman year and i want to say Seminole Riddge my second year.

i wish i would have been more mature in my younger years and been able to graduate from there, but my two years there were a blast.

just don't do it at criminole (i mean seminole) ridge or any of the apartments right there around campus so you can get something done. Just make sure you have plenty of friends in those apartments.

Seminole Ridge is a rough place.

Buc Ridge is much nicer and is patroled by the University constantly. A few years ago you had to be a sophomore to apply for those though. I would try looking into it however, because they were talking about changing that.

my last year there was the first year for Seminole Ridge. i know the place is surely bigger than the 4-5 buildings that were there like 6 years ago, but what makes it so bad? we were also the first renters of our apartment.

and from somebody who spent a lot of time in Seminole and a lot of time in Buc Ridge, i would most surely go with the latter if given the chance to live there again.
