my last year there was the first year for Seminole Ridge. i know the place is surely bigger than the 4-5 buildings that were there like 6 years ago, but what makes it so bad? we were also the first renters of our apartment.

and from somebody who spent a lot of time in Seminole and a lot of time in Buc Ridge, i would most surely go with the latter if given the chance to live there again.

Seminole has turned into one giant party. I know that doesn't sound bad, but cops, both ETSU and Johnson City seem to show up on a regular basis. If you want it, you can pretty much get it through someone at Seminole Ridge. I knew people that lived there and would go from time to time, but no way could i handle being there all the time.

i figured it was more of a high crime type area now. maybe even ghetto for lack of a better term. they parties and 'being able to find it if you want it' was the case when i lived there.

volfanbill, when did you go there? or do you still?

well, there are fights and stuff that i've seen break out. but I actually went to Milligan College just down the road. just grew up in JC and had a lot of friends that went to etsu and even some that lived there. i'll be honest, it was waaaaaaaaay too much for me. Graduated from Milligan in '04

They're suppose to build an outdoor stadium that would be inbetween 10-15 mill.

do you have any info on that as far as being done? I don't get to read about ETSU as much as I could when I was down there, but the original athletic facility renovations/ new buildings only included a new baseball facility and the possibility of a new bball only arena. where and how are they funding a football stadium? or is that part of the 99 yards to go as stanton mentioned in the press conference?

I know at one point I read in the JCP that they were thinking about a stadium at the Fairgrounds so that people from all three cities and other areas could access it more easily.

I also know that some students obviously didn't like that idea because of the off-campus location.

I know they wanted to talk to officials at Steve Spurrier field and see how much money they would need to pour into that facility to bring it up to code for a small university team.

wow. I can't imagine putting the stadium all the way out in Gray and I have to wonder where it would go on the Fairgrounds. The Appy Fair is still very successful, so i can't imagine they would cut into any of the current fairground itself. And I don't think the little league ballfields have enough room for a football field but i could be wrong. I think renovations at Spurrier Field could be done, although I question how many seats could be added especially on the home side w/ Cardinal Park sitting on top of it basically.

btw... welcome back O2.

Thanks. I've been here, just have nothing to say to the "Krispy Kreme" crowd. The board has turned into Tuscaloosa North this week and I'd rather go hang out in the graveyard than "sit in the stadium" and participate with the rest of the mullets. (If you have ever been to Alabama's campus, then you get the imagery there.)

don't really have too much info on it. My dad played football at ETSU in the 70's and he gets a magazine once a month from ETSU on whats going on with the school and there was an article about the football team coming back and only talked about the price of a new stadium. It also said that the Pres. was giving the students until March to have 300,000 dollars in donations from boosters and people around the area. If they earn the 300,000 then the Pres. will support the idea of bringing back the football team and they should have more plans then.

I guess he wanted the 300,000 dollars so he knows that students/alumi/fans will support the team :dunno:

fwiw... i tried to keep my derogatory personal comments at a minimum. I did throw out the fact that i thought fulmer and chavis were responsible for 1/5 of all that meat that was eaten b4 the outback bowl and that may have been out of line slightly... i was upset.. but other than that, i focused on why i don't think he's suceeding as coach anymore.

Bump.
Board Meeting March 1st.

I was talking to this guy last night about this and he hates the mini dome and I dont blame him. The thing is junk. The basketball team hates playing in it and I wouldn't blame them. ETSU has enough dough to build a football stadium and an arena but are too big of tight wads.

unless something has drastically changed, ETSU isn't close at all on having the dough to build that. The only reason the soccer and softball fields were built is because outside donors paid for most of it. They can't even get the baseball stadium they want started up. Where is all this dough for a football stadium and a basketball arena?

FWIW, ETSU does want to get rid of the 'Dome. They would like to build an arena either offsite or somewhere on the other side of St of Franklin, but can't even work that out financially.

guess Cardinal Park doesn't really matter as much as thought. But Spurrier Field as a location is out of the mix too since it's gone and is being replaced by an Activities Center or whatever they want to call it. It's a shame they had to ruin a historic piece of minor league baseball to do it. If you think I'm exaggerating, I'm not. They are taking part of right field away and the famous berm in rightfield will be no more. Every year random baseball fans would come see JC Cardinals games just for the oddity.

Yes, I enjoy it

well the last I heard, it was going to be no more. With the new Activities Center, they were going to have to make right field even shorter. They already took down the fence and the hill for the construction and the hill wasn't supposed to return. I haven't been there since December, but with college baseball starting and ETSU still without their baseball stadium, I'm guessing ETSU is playing at Cardinal Park, so hopefully they've done something with right field. HS baseball should be starting up too, so Science Hill needs the park too I would imagine.

I really wouldn't have a problem with tuition going up. It would generate revenue, put us in the spotlight, bring in more students, etc. We already pay a student activity fee for concerts and other entertainment that is in place of our football program.

I wouldn't either. I say more sports teams put them more on the map. Esp with the recent success of his basketball team lol.

competing year in and year out for the ASun isn't really getting them anywhere. I find it comical that so many believe that ETSU will suddenly draw all these fans that they were never able to draw in the past. Football had the AD so far in the red every single year at ETSU that they'd be foolish to bring it back. It's a commuter school where, as doozer pointed out almost 4 years ago becomes a ghost town on the weekends. No need for ETSU to lose money again. I'd rather see them find the way to finance a basketball arena and give the Bucs somewhere real to play in.

I've never understood why Johnson City doesn't try harder to work with the school to go in 50/50 on this deal. Johnson City could really reap the rewards of a new arena by hosting concerts and whatnot. Freedom Hall gets maybe 30 shows a year. A new arena could boost the economy all around.

ETSU is also a lot different now than it was four years ago. We will have another 1,000 new students coming in next semester. The student body is growing exponentially.

Neither of us said anything about fans showing out. I do think more will come with the increased numbers.

Weekends are still quiet, but an event on Saturday would keep some around. More and more out of state kids are enrolling. ETSU is becoming less of a regional school.

Where I stay when I'm in town isn't far from ETSU and at night time and especially weekends I can still drive through the campus like school's out for break. I don't buy that story. And even if the students would stay, the money is made from outside fans. And no one is gonna go watch ETSU play when they're an hour from watching Appy St play or more importantly, an hour and a half from Neyland. ETSU bringing football back would just cost the financially starved athletic program more money.
