ETSU Postgame Report

Good point....ccm runs a guard oriented offense......he needs to start rethinking that

The right answer - good post.

Golden did get experience at PG last season as a back-up to Goins. He couldn't do it then either, so Pearl had McBee doing it for a time. He now has 11 games under his belt playing 30+ minutes a game as a starter, plus all of the practice time. The light bulb has not come on yet. Washpun needs more experience for sure.

Agree with other posters, Tatum and McBee need to start. It need to go back in time to the two guard or three guard offense instead one PG. That will involve less dribbling and more court postioning and timely passing. Got to take the decisioning out of Golden's head because it is severly affecting his production. You have two upper classmen with significant experience in Tatum and McBee. The better spacing/rotation should help get the ball to both Maymon and Hall/Stokes. Hope Coach Zo is already considering this because it is what is needed, rather than crossing his fingers hoping Golden gets it soon.

I've been poring over the schedule all night doing best case/ worst case scenarios, and I truly think 16 wins is a strong possibility. We could also get about 11-12, as well, though....

Watched most of the games to date, if the team does not step it up in a big way...I see 8 more wins possible (Chatt+Citadel) and max 6 conference wins. To me that is the upside.

More wins, would imply the team decided to play some intense D.

You mean to tell me that martin as the coach can't pull
trae out of the game when he shoots 15 three pointers and never makes even one. Now who's being silly.

Have you seen Washpun run an offense? You want that for 30 minutes?

Dear Lord.

Last year they at least got it in the hands of Tobias. It's like they purposely avoid Maymon
Wrong. Tobias had to create virtually every basket for himself.....hell, a good majority of his points were from defensive stops and he would have to keep the balland run the floor to score a transition basket. We used Tobias just as poorly as we are using Maymon right now. We need a point guard, most problems could be solved by solid PG play, especially with the possibility of Cam and Mcbee hitting those big shots to open up the floor a bit.

Whoever he puts in can't be worse than trae.

Every time that statement is made, the speaker gets to eat crow. I know it was a different sport, but everyone said that putting Crompton on the bench couldn't be any worse, yet it was with Coleman and Stephens. Same with Worley. Let the coaches who are getting paid lots of money make that decision.

You said coaching could fix the problem, which was senseless. Benching someone isn't going to fix diddly. Recruiting a decent PG would be the start.

This tells me you don't watch the games because if you have seen Wes, it can be worse.

By the way, Richardson played PG in the CoC game and it didn't work. He's trying.

Zjc I think patience with the young PGs is important. Golden has only played 11 games as the starter at the point and I know he has struggled but when he is clicking like in the final 5 mins last nite this team is okay. Washpun is a true frosh who needs time (lots of time) to develop. I am not saying we don't need to recruit a PG for next year but maybe I am just unsure just yet. Bobby Maze struggled his entire Junior year but really was the key in their elite 8 run the next year. I'm just not sure yet although I am as frustrated as everyone. Go Vols.

Until Stokes gets here, our five best overall players, for better or worse, are Golden, Tatum, Maymon, Hall and McRae. That's the starting five. McBee starting is a terrible idea - he's simply not quick enough to play defense against anything above Sun Belt-level competition. He is doing a terrific job in his role, which is to come off the bench and hit open shots. Don't fix what ain't broke. Same with Woolridge, who is providing energy off the bench and is turning into something like an extremely poor man's J.P. Prince, right down to the occasional boneheaded decision.

I'm as frustrated with the PG play as anyone else, but we simply don't have any better options. As bad as the offense is with Golden running the point, it's worse with Washpun, who just looks lost out there. His superior defense doesn't make up for it. We're not going to win many games shooting 25 3's; had McBee and Tatum not been knocking them down, we would've lost to Asheville AND ETSU.

Golden has never played point guard. I agree, he's young. Hopefully he can improve. He has a lot of talent.

But to say you'd rather have Washpun than Golden is asinine.

Zjc if I said that I didn't mean too. I thought I said that Washpun needs a lot of time to develop. No I'd rather have Golden absolutely. This team is alright if Golden is playing and shooting well. Hopefully with the addition of Stokes they can be very dangerous next season if not later this year.

The only one I have seen that is able to get it to the post players is McBee.

Yes I watched the CofC game and saw that Miller was having a breakout game the first half and couldn't get in the second half. I think you're the one who didn't watch the game.

What the hell are you talking about? What does that have to do with the point guard situation? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
