Even More Obamacare Follies

Marcus needs to go back and review any correspondence he received prior to his surgery. I'm having the tail of my pancreas removed tomorrow due to a couple of lesions that have increased in size by 50% over the past two years. I had a nuclear stress test to determine if the old ticker would hold up to the surgery (understand it's a fairly nasty one, but better than dying of pancreatic cancer).

I received two letters from my insurance carrier, both stating they were approving the procedures (stress test and surgery), but that did not guarantee payment of the procedures.

BTW, prayers in the morning would be appreciated.

I will keep you in my prayers. Is the surgeon also removing your spleen?
Please keep us posted when you are up to it.

Yes. Without the pancreas tail there isn't a delivery system for the things the spleen produces. Have already had the vaccinations that will replace the spleen. Thanks.

There's a difference between praising and telling it like it is. The media and government have waged a massive propaganda campaign against it in order to ram the biggest POS of legislation in history down America's throat.

Businesses exist to make a profit not to give handouts..... That's what politicians and government do

I think you have it backwards. The propaganda was done by Fox News and others. Where are the death panels? No where to be found. Obamacare has it flaws, it's not a perfect, hell its a GOP plan. It's crazy that in America when someone tries fix something it's criticized to no end. The better question would be, what would you do to improve it? We as Americans pay the most for our healthcare but our system is ranked very high for a developed country.

Does anyone have a better more affordable plan now that the ACA has been implemented?
Co-pays, deductibles and coinsurance?

Yea. Well sorry of. My premium didn't go up at all. Not a penny. My deductible stayed the same. The only thing that increased was my out of pocket maximum. But even with that increase it is still below what others are seeing. It was also I smaller increase that what I saw the year before for out of pocket.

Ours is about the same. I know several people whose (personal, out-of-pocket) insurance costs have gone way down due to now being eligible for subsidies.

I'll bet that none of us have experienced any multi-year period that we got better and/or more affordable plans, either before or after ACA.

Not that ACA doesn't suck in a lot of ways, but health care has been getting more expensive and crappier every year since I started paying for my own in the early 80's and maybe before that.

The last three years have been a load of **** for me. Our plan doubled.... And I mean doubled..... $750/month for family coverage up to $1500..... Obviously we had to find an alternative so now I have a $6800 ded.... Drug card $3 generic $25 brand and that's it....$800+/month.
If you're an upper middle income wage earner with a family you're just subsidizing the others.

I sincerely wish you the best. I have a cyst on the head of my pancreas that docs are monitoring, therefore I have done some research. Do you have pancreatitis?

$800 per month is not bad, good drug card. Without the ACA your rates would probably have gone up $50 or more.

What is the problem with your coverage now, the deductible?

Good luck.

I may be starting a drug that requires pre-authorization. I emailed BCBS and they sent back an email saying it's authorized.

Should that be enough to cover me?

I had a drug a few months ago that took 6 weeks to get insurance approval. I have another one we are trying to get approval on now. We have Humana. It pays good but they do push for less expensive drugs, can't blame them some of the drug prices are outrageous.

Drug prices have always been outrageously high. Got home one day a few years ago & looked at the Walgreen's receipt & it said something like "your insurance saved you $496 dollars"....& this was for only a 30 day amount of pills. That's got to be pretty damn stupid to have pills cost that much without insurance. Someone is getting pretty rich.

I know a couple of people that have to have shots in their eyes about every month due to macular degeneration. They tell me they are $3000 per shot. Some months no shots, some months one shot ,other months 2 shots one in each eye.

That is some serious money for meds.

My mother has that done. She has her left eye that has to be shot every so often but I've never asked how much it cost.
