LSU has a 2nd QB transfer out of their program this offseason, leaving them with only 2 scholarship QB's on their roster..Even with Ferguson apparently leaving Knoxville, IMO UT at least has better security at the position than the Tigers..BTW, the QB leaving, Hayden Rettig, is Chase Rettig's younger brother who was a target for UT a few seasons ago before choosing to play for Boston College..I'm curious if anyone has heard if Hayden might be interested in UT as a transfer destination....

Didn't he also have a third cousin who went to a UT game once??? Probably already halfway to Knoxville by now

Ferguson is gone. Period. Get over it.
There is no need to "replace" him. That's what recruiting is all about. If he were listed as #1 on the depth chart, it might be different. He wasn't.

I can tell you it could have been way worse without providing examples of other teams' misfortune. It could be way worse because I can name 20+ players off the top of my head that would hurt our team to lose more than Ferguson.

Scary, ain't it!!!!!!:crossfingers:
It happened when I was at U.T. when 4th string qb Jim Maxwell took the reins. All 5th year senior Maxwell had done previously was hold placekicks for George Hunt.

We started the 1971 season 3-2 with a 1 point loss to Auburn and Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan, and a big road loss to Alabama. Coach Battle tried Dennis Chadwick, Phil Pierce, and Chip Howard at quarterback. Turnovers killed us. Battle finally turned to Maxwell , who finished out his reign undefeated and untied, a perfect 7-0 record as a starter.

We had two Qbs hurt last year

Quality depth is important

If we lose two this year, you have Peterman,Wegzyn, and Ashford

Oh well! The fact is Ferguson isn't the future either or anyway.....

He better sign a stud QB in '15 or his troubles may start to mount. We don't have an SEC caliber QB on the roster with or without Ferguson. If Ferguson wasn't a water head, he would be starting....

There are probably at least five guys on team who have played QB in high school. I believe AJ and TK2 fall into this category. A lot of players drafted as ATH as well.

I am with you Fergi never played a snap, plus he showed he does not wont to compete, we don't need players that don't have it in them when the going gets rough think about it 1 bad spring game and he hits the door I would rather he walk now instead the first time he missed on 3rd and 8.

Agree about the need to sign a stud, but I think both Dobbs and Worley will be much better than last year. Both were in a brand new system with virtually no one to throw to. Now they both have starting experience under their belt in this system and a huge talent upgrade at the WR and TE positions.

This year's qb's have been handed a very fast and highly touted assortment of skill players......'lotsa' future NFLers in this class......as opposed to last years group of (excluding a pair of uber-able receivers who'd not adapted to the speed of the game.....yet) slow and not overly talented fella's who, nonetheless, worked their azzes off. Worley and Dobbs should prove in the first couple of games that their improvement is remarkable......Peterman was hit by an 18-wheeler in that florida game......'overloaded the kid in that situation......'think his stock will go up too; Wegxyn is experienced;supposedly an outstanding athlete......and Mr. Gibson has just been handed a marvelous reason to put on the cap with a great big orange "T" for '15 well before NSD, and maybe one or two other highly sought-after qb's. Good luck Riley, in your future playing football or whatever. You gave it a shot, but these guys apparently want it more than you.:compute:

I don't see QB as our "question mark" this year, assuming we can stay healthy at the position. The talent is there. I think a 6+ win season hinges on our defense. Pass rush; run stuffers; LB's who can fill gaps and cover; corners who can press; and safeties that don't get beat. There's where the question lies.

The way we have played the last few years maybe we should get to that point. Hell UK beat us with a WR/CB a couple years ago!

CBJ needs to show improvement this year for the 3.3 million he is being paid. Most wire services rate him as one of the most overpaid coaches there is. Forget Ferguson!! The coaches are being paid to improve the team!! The accountability is with them!! I expect improvement this year over last year!
