Everyone back off the freaking ledge

Y'all are the ones freaking out. I'm just stating my opinion that the coaching is abysmal. I didn't realize the boys were now playing for The University of Butch Jones.

Who is freaking out? You just predicted our recruiting class will fall apart because we are winning the games we are supposed to win.

Solid point.

We looked awful. But, you're right, recruits love to play for poorly coached teams. They're just mindless bricks who can't tell this team is underperforming and the coaches are in over their heads.

Sad. Really.

I see a decent amount of the fanbase has turned, unsurprising.

Just to let you know, UT was up 31-7. What happened? The players let up. You know why?

That's what they've done their entire time here.

Hell, they let up against WKU, but got bailed out by another INT.

Did Coach Jones makes mistakes? Yes. Does Coach Jones need to correct some things from a coaching perspective on him and his staff? Absolutely. They are not clean.

However, (and I hate to sound like such an ******* here, but I'll explain) this is a team full of losers. Let me clarify. Other than a couple redshirt seniors, these guys do not know what a winning football team is at the SEC level. They dif not know what an SEC level coaching staff was till this past April. They are still adjusting to a new coaching staff. For the seniors, this is their third defense in four years. For the offense, they lost all their playmakers and their quarterback. Are they losers off the field or should we mock them for their performance? No! What I'm saying is that this team does not know what a winning team does. That's part of the battle Coach Jones talks about. That's what he means by "the process" and "building a foundation". It's not just tired football cliches, he actually has to build a winning football team from the ground up, because all these players know is disappointment, heartache, and losing. That's not even their fault. It's just how it is right now.

There are positives. The secondary has greatly improved from last year. We have a pass rush this season. The run game, while not great, has improved from last year, and both Lane and Neal are better backs. The wideouts will be scary good next year and are getting better every game. There are negatives. The coaching staff is too conservative. They lack awareness on third down. The vanilla play design is confusing. It's just like any other situation in life. Positives and negatives.

Step off the ledge. Criticism is fine. Trying to fire people five games into a regime is silly, stupid, and shortsighted. I'm not going to give the whole "Rome wasn't built in a day" speech, but we are 3-2. The same exact record everyone with a decent head on their shoulders knew what it would be after five games. Wait until the end of the year, when we have the evidence, and then we can come to a logical conclusion on where the program is headed.

You deserve a friggin medal. People on this board drive me nuts with how cynical they are. Anyone and I mean ANYONE, who saw this same team last year and expected them to be world beaters this year needs to have their heads checked. Fact is, there is only one goal this season and that is getting to the post season, that's it, that is the size of it and nothing more. Hell as nice as a bowl game sounds we are likely a 5 win team, I'm not getting down on the team or being negative, it's just what it is.

To those people calling for CBJ to be fired or giving up on the staff, here's a history lesson. Jones won 4 games his first year at Cinci, then 10 the next year and he would have won 10 the following year had he not accepted the UT job. I mean, give the guy a chance to do something, he hasn't even coached half a season yet. People need to realize he is working with a roster full of guys that A) weren't recruited for the system he runs and B) have never had any level of consistency in regards to coaching their entire careers.

So yes, back off the ledge. This is not the year anyone needs to be giving up on this staff, we can talk about this again at the end of his third year.

Just to clarify, coaching isn't an 8 or 9 month process. These kids have never had consistency with coaching their entire careers at UT. None of our kids have had an opportunity to really develop as players, that is what you saw today and that's what you saw last year. Nine months with a new staff isn't going to fix that. Sure their conditioning is better and the fundamentals are there but they don't read plays well on either side of the ball. It takes time to develop football IQ and unfortunately, due to the incompetence of the last 3 years, these kids might as well all be true freshman. When Jones talks about foundation and "brick by brick" he is literally having to build this program back from scratch. So keep this in mind going forward and maybe you'll be able to view the team with some objectivity.

We won and a W is a W, regardless of how pretty it is.

I am sure that if we beat Georgia 9-6 in a defensive matchup for the ages that the people on here would be complaining about us only scoring 9 points.

Give me a freakin break people. Some people on here will b#$%! about anything.

I say judge the man on his entire body of work, not 5 games into his first season with a bunch of players he didn't recruit that only know how to lose in big games because that is what they think is normal.

Not proud of what the final score was against a lesser opponent (willing to bet most fans would agree), but we won

First year coach coinciding with the baggage we've had over the last few years i don't see how anyone would expect us to be much better...bowl game or bust this season boys, saddle in because it'll be a long one

Tailgate and have a cold beer, attend the game with friends and family, watch other games after our seemingly inevitable blowout loss to obviously better competition...it doesn't matter, just enjoy the pageantry that is UT football as we (hopefully) witness a foundation being built on rocky top

Nick Saban lost to UAB in Baton Rouge his first year with the LSU .

that is really getting old when are people going to realize there is only one saban and butch jones isn't him, that's not to say he couldnt have equal success here but that get really annoying when I see our fan base trying to rationalize every thing bad over the last 4 years with sabans first year at bama, Lsu or his years at MSU. The same arguments were being made for Dooley over the last 3 years, so if we are rationalizing everything butch with saban we should be 11-1 with a sugar bowl apparence next year.

Are some of you people being serious?! If so, then ignorance is abundant on these boards! I cannot believe that people have already jumped ship on this coaching staff and tennessee! Do you ignorant ones honestly believe that getting rid of the coaches is the answer?! Do you realize how much further that would set this program back?!! We have a good coach, now let him do his job!

I just can't understand why the guys getting paid Millions are not to blame for what we see. Every team we have faced has looked better coached than us ! Better schemes would have helped the Talent Gap. we needed a coach who could do more with Less, I don't see that here.

There is no ledge. We are standing at the bottom of the chasm.

I'm sure Bama fans felt the same way after losing to Louisiana Monroe in Saban's first year.

Things are never as bad as they seem folks.

In defense of VOLS fans, there are very few who want anyone fired. I think the majority of fans meltdown the day of game then they calm down and go about their business.

I think it's great to win, but we nearly lost to a team that should not have been a concern by the fourth quarter.

That said, this has happened to Michigan and Florida lately, and they are still ranked.

Just look at the mistakes and try to turn it around..

This is why our recruiting class on the defense side should stick..

1 We lack bookend pass rushers- Vereen may fill one moving forward...could play next year
2.Sapp is our beat LB and no real depth to speak of- come play next year
3. DT- I see Clark is in the 2 deep enough said- have a chance to start
4.Secondary - Sutton and Swafford.. if times were good should be redshirting..Toney and Arnold are just a liability.- play against GA.

Other than that our defense is stout
