Sad. Really.
I see a decent amount of the fanbase has turned, unsurprising.
Just to let you know, UT was up 31-7. What happened? The players let up. You know why?
That's what they've done their entire time here.
Hell, they let up against WKU, but got bailed out by another INT.
Did Coach Jones makes mistakes? Yes. Does Coach Jones need to correct some things from a coaching perspective on him and his staff? Absolutely. They are not clean.
However, (and I hate to sound like such an ******* here, but I'll explain) this is a team full of losers. Let me clarify. Other than a couple redshirt seniors, these guys do not know what a winning football team is at the SEC level. They dif not know what an SEC level coaching staff was till this past April. They are still adjusting to a new coaching staff. For the seniors, this is their third defense in four years. For the offense, they lost all their playmakers and their quarterback. Are they losers off the field or should we mock them for their performance? No! What I'm saying is that this team does not know what a winning team does. That's part of the battle Coach Jones talks about. That's what he means by "the process" and "building a foundation". It's not just tired football cliches, he actually has to build a winning football team from the ground up, because all these players know is disappointment, heartache, and losing. That's not even their fault. It's just how it is right now.
There are positives. The secondary has greatly improved from last year. We have a pass rush this season. The run game, while not great, has improved from last year, and both Lane and Neal are better backs. The wideouts will be scary good next year and are getting better every game. There are negatives. The coaching staff is too conservative. They lack awareness on third down. The vanilla play design is confusing. It's just like any other situation in life. Positives and negatives.
Step off the ledge. Criticism is fine. Trying to fire people five games into a regime is silly, stupid, and shortsighted. I'm not going to give the whole "Rome wasn't built in a day" speech, but we are 3-2. The same exact record everyone with a decent head on their shoulders knew what it would be after five games. Wait until the end of the year, when we have the evidence, and then we can come to a logical conclusion on where the program is headed.
