I told my dad, who, like me, has had worst fits over losing bball games than football, that this year's team will be better than last year's.

So far I've been right.

A lot of Vols cut their teeth watching Peyton Manning, I cut my teeth watching Allan Houston.

I think Auburn will be number 1 in the next AP Poll. I for one don't care about our late December ranking. Let them have it.
I kind of feel the same way. Hate the early rankings. Would like to see us feel like we are getting no respect by others. Play with a chip on our shoulders.

Seems like Auburn is best team in the country this season and vols are in that next group from 2-6 with UK, ISU, Duke, Kansas, Florida.

#1 or #25 doesn't really matter until March. Then its about winning 6 straight games and you better be able to put up points from sweet 16 on. We have been #1,#2, #3, #4 seeds in that tournament over the years and then we meet a true blue blood and get handled easily. Rinse and repeat. But maybe this year will be different, you can always hope.

Until UCONN is beat in that tourney they are the team to knock out. Back to back and looking for a 3rd. With plenty of depth. They are back and not going anywhere anytime soon, until that Hurley guy leaves for NBA.

Handled easily by a true blue blood? Like versus Duke 2 years ago?

Not saying we cant beat those teams but have we ever won a Championship in Basketball ? Hard to beat those teams in a row. When you can beat Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA , UCONN, NC, in a championship tournament back to back to back . Better have a crap ton of depth.

Which of those teams have even beat us in the tournament? I think one of them, at least as far as I remember.

1. The idea that an entire 30ish game season of basketball doesn’t matter is ridiculous. We’ve won SEC regular season titles and SEC tournament titles recently, banners at all schools get hung for those. The idea is that an entire season is erased based on the results of the final tournament is foolish.
2. We’ve never been the 1 seed.
3. Duke game happened very recently…
4. Unless you’re a low seed on cinderella run the odds of even getting to see teams like Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, UCLA, UCONN and NC in every game is not gonna happen.
5. Most of the top teams run about an 8 man rotation, some even run 7 when they hit the tournament. Depth is great, but the idea you need 10 guys for a tournament run just isn’t backed up

Yep. UNC once that I recall. Usually, we have a “Cinderella problem” instead of a “Blue Blood problem”. Or a Big 10 team (OSU, MSU, Michigan 2x, Purdue 2x)…..

No team does that in the tournament. Especially if they are a 1 or 2 seed.

Every one of those Big 10 games turned on a tough whistle, too. I could charitably say they just know better what the refs expect.

I’m just a guy who watches a lot of basketball. Just because Tennessee is number 1 doesn’t mean we’re ready for a championship. The SEC has never had this many talented teams.
Yep , and were going to find out just how good they all are come tournament time. Winning 6 straight games vs teams you dont know is much different than playing the same teams every year in your conference. One game of crappy shooting and bye bye nice seeing you.

Yes, it's a one and done crapshoot. That's why the regular season is so important. Getting a 1 or 2 seed is usually a big advantage

Regular season success identifies the best teams
