Everyones' last minute thoughts

I think it is going to be a very loud and difficult environment for the Gators. Florida needs to stay composed and stick to their game plan, even if they find themselves down a score or two early.

Keys to a Florida win:
1) Minimize penalties, particularly false starts and illegal procedure-type penalties;
2) No turnovers.
3) Offensive line must give Leak time to throw. Might be the most citical facotr in the game.
4) Percy Harvin
5) Dallas Baker

Good point on your new O line , In think the game will hinge on our new D line vs your new O line that is the point where the most mistakes will be. I think our linebackers will have just enough pressure to cause Leak's to make bad decisions. resulting a UT win.

Hmmm....which team will prevail?

Interesting points by all, on both sides of the ball. Recent history says it will be a close game. But will it, this time?

Probably, yes. The Vols are just dinged up enough to let Florida level the field in terms of talent. Then again, if Chavis cuts those high-speed linebackers loose on blitzes...and we get Leak looking for them instead of his receivers...

...and if Ainge can maintain both his confidence and his timing for 4 quarters...

...and if the General can keep the wind blowing at our backs for 60 minutes...

...no mistakes on special teams, and no more than one turnover.

Vols. Big.

Go Vols. I'll be watching. Hopefully the General will too.

IMO 3 keys to the game...

1) Pressure on Leak - history has proven he can be rattled and is much less effective when he faces relentless pressure.

Advantage VOLS given florida's relative weakness in the O-line and Chavis talent for scheming.

2) Tennessee's power run game - we need to get this going so that we have balance. If we are too one-dimensional we will struggle offensively.

EVEN. Our run game is not a proven strength and Florida's front seven is - BUT, we typically have decent success running the ball against the gators.

3) Turnovers and mistakes. This cost us the game last year.

Advantage VOLS. This is 2006 not 2005. We have Cutcliffe back and his attention to detail and focus on execution is already tremedously obvious. Florida is playing their first road game of the year.

If we 1) get constant pressure on Leak, 2) rush for 175+ yards, and 3) end up at least even in TO margin, we win.

175+ yards?! UF only gave up over 175 yards ONCE all of last season, and that was in a game that Florida won (UGA - 177 yards rushing). UF averaged giving up 98 yards per game last year, and the front seven look to be even better this year than last year.

If you are banking on that as one of your keys to the game, you might want to have a backup plan.

Didn't say it was going to be easy, and didn't predict that we would do it. I assume you would agree that if we gained 175 yards rushing it would work in our favor? If so, thanks for helping to prove my point.

If we don't get 175 yards rushing, it doesn't guarantee we lose, but the further that number is below 175, the harder it will be for us to win.

Last minute thoughts:

This one's gonna be big. The Vol Faithful are, once again, excited, ready, and eager. It will be loud. It will be hostile. Players will be flying around. Look for big hits, big plays, and a few unnecessary personal fouls.

I don't think that this one will be decided on the ground, as has maybe been the tradition in the past. Both front 7's are just too good, and it will be up to two QB's with questionable "pocket presence" to make wise decisions, take a few hits, protect the football, and hit the open man.

The tailgating will be superb (or, at least, mine will). We're all ready to continue the home streak and would love to see another offensive outpouring. Get there early and enjoy the best that Knoxville has to offer. This is it, folks. We live for Saturdays in the fall.

Out of curiousity, how do the USM and UCF games give you any real idea of how good your rush defense is?

5 of the 7 are returning starters from last year. The other two saw a lot of playing time last year as well. The foir the Southern Miss game 2 of the starters were held out for violating team rules, and still held them to 119 yards, most of which were given up late in the game when Florida had its 3rd teamers in.

They held UCF to 21 yards once we had those two starters back in. That's less yardage than we held any other team to last year, including Lousiana Tech, who was on par last year with UCF this year.

This game always, in general, comes down to who controls the line of scrimmage with the running game.

I would rather take my chances with Leak attempting 30 plus passes than Florida controlling the line of scrimmage and eating away the clock and also controlling time of posession.

I will say Florida has an excellent defensive line, what I would be concerned about from a Florida perspective is the depth at linebacker.

I'll take my chances with the Vols offensive line and running back corps.

My last minute thoughts: I've read all the comparisons and all about the matchups, how we match up, the ones we have to win and speculations from all over. But to me it all comes down to the game I both look forward to and yet dread each year. It seem like most of the time the Vols are just plain snakebit when they play Florida. I don't hate the Gators, I just desperately want the Vols to take them apart and maybe shut the great oracles of tv sports up at least for a while.

I know I won't sleep well tonight because I'll either be sick or euphoric. I've had enough. Bring 'em on and let's get this thing settled once and for all so I can enjoy the rest of the season.

I wish they were kicking off right this minute.

The game gets decided in the 4th quarter.

IMO, if UT's defensive line can play at the same intensity and level in the 4th quarter as they did in the first half UT should win.
