Ex Oregon Qb Jeremiah Masoli

There are still several hurdles at Ole Miss for Masoli:

Jones on Masoli: “That’s a very complex issue” | Ole Miss sports

OXFORD — Greetings from the great quarterback hunt of 2010, where we bring you some information from the president’s office.

As we reported yesterday on the blog, if UM coach Houston Nutt decides to fully pursue former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, there would be several levels of administration who would have to sign off on the decision because of his past legal issues. It’s unclear whether athletic director Pete Boone or university president Dr. Dan Jones would approve such a move.

When reached this afternoon, Jones wouldn’t comment on specifics, but said “that’s a very complex issue.”

If Ole Miss wants to pursue Masoli, it will have to start things very quickly for him to be in Oxford for the beginning of fall camp. According to the UM compliance office, the school would still have to petition the NCAA to waive the one-year residency clearance that would allow Masoli to play immediately. Plus, Masoli still has to apply for a graduate school program and be accepted. Those things don’t traditionally happen overnight.

Considering the first game is just over a month away, time is important. Masoli would need every practice possible to learn the Rebels’ offense.

I just don't like playing the moral high ground card, given Tennessee's issues over this last summer alone.

fyp....but I believe I understand what you're trying to say right? I honestly think what just happened to us like less than a month ago really warrants the glass houses comment more than anything else

So there's still a chance that he doesn't automatically play this year? If I'm reading that correctly

Yes, but I feel like this is an issue we've been struggling with for years.

we have a bit, but as far as 06,07,08, and 09 really not much more than UGA or UF (or even the gamecocks) had been

After this incident this summer, we're pretty much right back at keeping it shut about those things happening with anyone else

No that was Auburn who got Cam Newton. He should be good this season for them.

This whole situation reeks of desperation.

Masoli is going to have to either learn the offense in about a week or redshirt (I don't know if that's an option).

If Masoli has to sit around Oxford for a year, he'll get in trouble.

If Masoli is force fed the playbook, he'll suck.

It's just not worth the hassle IMO.

Really? I don't really watch the spring games. Maybe it was newton just learning the offense. He will atleast be better than todd and burn from the past couple of seasons.

Pretty much every position beside RB and LT looked terrible.

Schafer, Snead, Masoli. Ole Miss is like a halfway house for quarterbacks. Odd that their super-QB evaluator left them in such a situation.

I don't think red shirting is an option. He has this year to play and that's it.

I thought Chip Kelly said he could redshirt this year (while he was suspended at Oregon before he was kicked off)?

He could redshirt at Ole Miss, in theory, but that wouldn't make any sense. He was going to be forced to redshirt had he stayed at Oregon (before his dismissal) because of his year long suspension.

Thanks.

I thought I had heard that but I wasn't sure.

At least per College Football Talk he has been accepted into an Ole Miss graduate program and could take a visit this weekend. If he signs there I just don't how he could start, he'll need to have a miracle fall camp. He probably isn't in football shape and would need to study night and day to get the playbook/offense down and I just don't see it happening.
