There are still several hurdles at Ole Miss for Masoli:
Jones on Masoli: “That’s a very complex issue” | Ole Miss sports
OXFORD — Greetings from the great quarterback hunt of 2010, where we bring you some information from the president’s office.
As we reported yesterday on the blog, if UM coach Houston Nutt decides to fully pursue former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, there would be several levels of administration who would have to sign off on the decision because of his past legal issues. It’s unclear whether athletic director Pete Boone or university president Dr. Dan Jones would approve such a move.
When reached this afternoon, Jones wouldn’t comment on specifics, but said “that’s a very complex issue.”
If Ole Miss wants to pursue Masoli, it will have to start things very quickly for him to be in Oxford for the beginning of fall camp. According to the UM compliance office, the school would still have to petition the NCAA to waive the one-year residency clearance that would allow Masoli to play immediately. Plus, Masoli still has to apply for a graduate school program and be accepted. Those things don’t traditionally happen overnight.
Considering the first game is just over a month away, time is important. Masoli would need every practice possible to learn the Rebels’ offense.
