excellent hire for UT!!

Jones is a great hire for UT. The main reason is that he can flat out coach. Coaching is what makes good teams great in this league. All of the monster schools in the league get talent that is very comparable. The difference is who can coach them up. Look no further than florida for an example. Zook had major talent but could not coach, meyer stepped in and won with the same talent because he can coach. He will get good enough talent here, and his coaching should prove to be the difference. This guy is a winner, period. He also comes from brian kelly and we all can see how well his coaching and philosophies are working at ND. Just don't be D-bag fans and give the guy a couple years to build it up.

If he can recruit better than what he is doing up in Cincy, then i'll be happy. I would also like to keep our RB coach and OL coach. They did a great job this yr.

Listening to the media, most think it was a good hire! The only ones who think it is a bad hire is Tennessee fans.

LOL when hundreds of people(VOL FANS) are under the impression the UT coaching job is attractive enough to bring in a Jon Gruden, then anything less is just uncivilized...

Kentucky did not pass on Coach, he let Kentucky know that if Tenn. calls he would prefer the Tenn. job. Coach wanted to be here. He said it is his dream job, so I at least think we need to support the guy.

I agree with you in the "coaching them up" theory. Buzz could not coach, but Pearl made an 11 game improvement with Buzz's players. So, you are correct!!

As far as Jones being a good coach, due to his association to Kelly. Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at all of the assistant coaches who coached with Saban. Are they magnificent head coaches???

Frank Solich coached under Tom Osborne for many years and then took the Nebraska job after Osborne retired. He failed miserably.

The problem here is that a high majority of fans seem to think football does not exist above the state of kentucky. Well it does and the coaching is actually much better up there also. The south has a deeper talent pool of players, and fans that are borderline psychotic. If the fans would look at this guys past successes, and who he has coached under they would see that this is a great hire. Bottom line is gruden was NEVER a serious candidate, and having ties to the SEC means absolutely nothing. I think fulmer was the last SEC team to win a NC with a coach from the south. Miles, meyer, and saban are all midwestern guys. They all adapted just fine to the south and jones will too.

The point is that he took over for kelly at two other schools and did outstanding jobs as the head coach. Saban assistants and solich did not have multiple head coaching gigs prior to taking a major job.

That's not true. Jones was wanting to wait to see what other offers he would receive before he was willing to accept an offer from UK. In my mind, he was waiting to see if the UT job would fall to him. Although I won't complain, I love the Stoops hire.

And I'm a UK fan and I like the hire you all made. Didn't want you all to think I was here to troll or anything. The better the SEC is overall, the more I like it. I think you all got a solid coach today.

Bottom line, Jones is a winner. I don't care what level you coach, you're either a winner or you're not. Dooley never was. Jones has coaches for 6 years and won his conference championship 4 of those years. I think we just made a great hire!

Kentuckys loss was our gain! It happens all the time people pass on a guy who turns out to be pretty good at his job. How bout the 198 draft picks that passed on Tom Brady in 2000?? Plain and simple I can't wait until you simple asses eat crow after Jones turns this program around

Thanks! I hope you are right. I think Y'all made a good hire as well. Both of our hires will be based on how well they can recruit. There is no doubt they can coach.
