Expanding not the best option for SEC?

You must have not paid attention to the last 6 years of college football. Outside of Auburn being robbed, the SEC has gotten its fair share of opportunities to win titles... and they have cashed in on those opportunities every time.

BTW, check out 2007 LSU Tigers' record...

yep

You really think it would be fun to play Florida, Georgia, VT, FSU, and potentially Alabama still in addition to our upcoming out of conference schedule? We have different views of "fun."

If we can't compete with with these teams then we need to join Conf-Usa. Yeah lets go beat the crap out of Mempiss and UAB every year that would be a heck of a lot better. I'm sorry not trying to be a douche. I understand the concern. I just personally think it's more fun to play good teams than the Marshalls of the world. If you want to be able to say you are the best. You should be able to beat anybody. I ain't skeered.:)

Hey smart guys. Why do Texas and Oklahoma prefer the Pac 10 to the SEC? Is it because they have not been pursued at all by the SEC, or do they not want the competion. It seems like the travel to play in the Pac 10 would suck. The closest Pac 10 teams are Arizona and ASU. Thats about a 2500 mile round trip just to play the two closest teams. I suppose Colorodo joining makes them closer. I just heard about them.

Would somebody who understands-follows this crap better than me please respond to this Question.

Your tune would change after about 5 seasons of 8-4 being our absolute best record.

If you want to run with the big dogs, you have to get off the porch!!!...I say!!

Makes me sick when some fans don't want to play good teams! Good competition is what makes you better!!

thats why we should keep sec the way it is. We ARE the best. We play the best week in and week out.

No it wouldn't. We would have down years. But we would also have great glorious years. I am not afraid. Tennessee has proven we can beat the best college football has to offer. Jeez have some faith in your team man. Go watch Braveheart or Gladiator or something. Lets give em he!!.

I have faith, but I also have perspective. We could potentially play 5 or 6 top 10 teams in one season if we had a schedule that included Florida, Georgia, FSU, Alabama, Miami/VT. Then, we could look forward to playing LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, or Texas for the SEC championship. Joy.

I'm not just saying this for UT. I don't understand why Florida or Alabama would want this to happen either. It makes dollar sense for the SEC, and that's about it.

It would also work in reverse. If the SEC didn't expand, it would put more of a premium on out of conference schedules. I'm much more in favor of that.

With the other conferences getting tougher, there is no way they are going to play a good SEC school in an out of conference game. If they expand, we have to.

There are still teams that we could play that would be better than Memphis or UAB. Same with Florida. But, you're right in that it would be more of an issue with the SEC if we didn't expand. But, like I said, I'm ok with that... a lot better than I am with adding Texas, FSU, etc.

The SEC will not make any more money by bringing in Texas A&M. Keep the conference at 12 teams, unless they go 16 by adding Ga Tech, Clemson, FSU and Miami.

The thing is everybody is going to have it rough. You say we would have to play 5-6 top 10 teams, true but they do to. With expansion NOBODY is going to have a cakewalk anymore. And when you start having 6 or 7 10-2 teams we might finally get a true playoff. Now THAT would really be fun!

I would rather be in Florida, Texas, Alabama, FSU, Miami, and probably Oklahoma's shoes if that happens. Tennessee has a lot of tradition, but those schools have such an upper hand in recruiting that it would not be fun.

I am sorry, but for those of you who way we are the top conference in the nation, and do not need to expand, you only need to look at recent history to debunk your theory. The SEC is the top conference right now....but things change. The SEC has not always been the top conference. They have always been one of the top conferences, but not THE top conference. Historically, that would probably go to the Big 10 prior to the SEC. What happened to change that? The SEC expanded, albeit with lower tier teams, and grew their footprint into difference areas, increasing their fan base. Over a period of years, the SEC grew and the Big 10 was stagnant. Now, the SEC has a huge following, a very lucrative TV package, and there is always an SEC game on national TV...

So lets fast forward. The Big 10 grows in their footprint, adds some teams, increases their fan base, as does the Pac 10, especially if the Pac 10 grows into a huge Texas market...over a period of years, these conferences will grow and will surpass the SEC because they will have all the attention and coverage. Recruits will want to move to these conferences where the exposure will be greater, ESPN will start putting SEC games on ESPN VIII (The Ocho), and thus the change in power conferences will begin.

Too far fetched? It has occurred with the Big 10 and Pac 10 before...and it happens in business all the time (Just look at GM--has happened to them twice)...you must continue to change yourself to what the media wants, or you will wilt and struggle....

You are never too big or too strong to be dethroned. Actually, as the leader of the pack, the bullseye is on you, so you must be even more proactive than anyone else or risk being overtaken.

Bigger != better.

I'd say the average Texas fan would rather watch an ESPN SEC matchup over a Colorado-Stanford Pac-Whatever game.

The SEC has lucrative TV deals because we have Florida, LSU, Bama, UT, and Georgia. They are guaranteed top 15 games every week.

Adding A&M, or TTU doesn't do much for us. Neither does FSU or Clemson. It dilutes the pool of money going out to each school.

What happened, and the only thing that happend, was the BCS which made the Big 10 champ or other champ play the SEC champ and we haven't lost a game yet. It is only because we are undefeated in Champ games and have destroyed the mighty "yeah right" Buckeyes everytime that the SEC now gets props. If it was still an AP poll the Buckeyes would have 3 more rings and the SEC would be left out in the cold. Expansion has nothing to do with it ... them having to play us does.
