Expect commits this weekend?

I am not concerned. Not yet. I realize that almost all of our rivals have some commits, but I also realize that many of those committed players will wind up elsewhere. Maybe here. A commitment does not hold the water that it did even 3 years ago. I still get excited when we get a commit; it is good news for our program, but I really try not to sweat it this early. I do understand what you are saying, but I don't think it's time to get concerned. There will be plenty of time to get concerned later, and I likely will.

Good points.

While I think the lawsuit will cause the coaches some additional time in recruiting, I feel that the quality of recruits and lack of immediate playing time is having more of an impact. In the previous recruiting classes, the staff was certainly more willing to take an early commitment. Last year we saw that backfire when several recruits were told to look elsewhere. I think Canan Ray is possibly an excellent example of the staff not accepting a commitment this early in the process, especially on the OL. The commitments will come.

We also could have four or five 4 & 5 recruits committed right now and hardly anyone would be *****in.

When have we ever had that many committed in March? In Hurd's class, this date 2013 we had ONE 3 star commit...Vic Wharton. He was eventually joined by ANOTHER 3 star (3 days from now 3 years ago), Coleman Thomas. And my friend...THERE WAS MUCH B******* TO BE HAD IN THE VN KINGDOM! Then Butch landed 4 star TKjr and on Mar 14, 5 star Jalen Hurd committed! :yahoo: VN rejoiced! Boomed until we were dehydrated :fireworks:...and then went to do our taxes. :boredom:

True story. :victory:

I'm not mad at the kid! I'm glad he is on board and if the coaches think he can contribute, I'm tickled to have him.

Committing to a school means less and less every year. What matters is how many spots you have leading up to nsd and who you can close on. Get with the new normal compadres and you will live a less stressful life.

Smith, sutton, Robertson, wolf and so many others were 3 stars. Just because you aren't "elite" coming out of HS doesn't mean you won't be elite in college.

You have a different definition of elite than most. How many that you named have ever been all-sec? Sutton? Good does not equal elite. If it iw the Smith I think you are referencing, watch more football other than UT games and you will see elite receivers. Preston Williams has the chance to be great.

Agree 100%. Of those 3*s mentioned earlier, it looks like only Sutton and Hall will receive superlative accolades. We need 4 and 5 star recruits....all we can get, to climb back to a championship level. Scholly spots are far too scarce to invest very many of them on long term developmental projects.

Those players have great potential no doubt. Sutton didnt play great last season.

How bout we win the east, secc, and maybe the cfb title with these elite 3*s.

How about we have a senior class where the PLACEKICKER doesn't outrun the defensive backs on Pro Day? Like Palardy did Teague? Butch has transformed the team speed drastically in 3 classes...and he didn't do it by printing out the Rival 250 and not offering 251 and on. He uses scouting, projecting and other recruiting crap. A large number of the inferior 3 stars he offers end up with offers from the Bama's and Ohio State's of the world. I see the results...maybe because I use the time I would normally alot to defeatism. :hi:
