Expectations for BJ Edwards?

Own my wrong. Played so much alongside Chandler he might as well have started.
FWIW, I do believe the staff is apprehensive about rolling into next season with ZZ as the starting option, and primary PG option. I also believe that BJE is more of a CG in the mold of a Lamonte Turner more so than a Kennedy Chandler. His playing time will most likely be sparse as a freshman, and I'd wager as much of it comes off the ball as it does on the ball.

That certainly isn't set in stone, and is entirely my opinion, but the guard spots (assuming we add Collins) are pretty crowded with experience and talent. BJE is talented, though not one-and-done type talent, but he obviously lacks experience at the collegiate level and Barnes clearly prefers his guards, especially, not learn by being thrown to the wolves. That is doubly true when it isn't even necessary due to a wealth of existing talent and depth.

I'd expect a role similar to what you saw from Mashack, this year, though possibly a little more extended. BJE is pretty skilled, offensively, and is also a good defender. Mashack was a good defender, but clearly was behind from an offensive skills standpoint at this level. Mashack averaged 4.6 mpg. I could see BJE pushing for 6-7 mpg. He will likely compete with Justin Powell for minutes as the 4th-5th guard, depending on where the majority of JJJ's minutes come from. If he's able to supplant Powell, his minutes will obviously increase.
