Where do we need to be and long should it take? I hope everyone can get on the same page as far as what defines a successful tenure by Strong. I would like to suggest that Strong needs 3-4 years in order to have the pieces in place to win the SECeast, and if he did so would be on pace to at some point in his first 5 years win the SECCgame, and play for the National Title.

Is this asking too much? Too little? With the resources we have getting back on top will happen sooner or later, let's just hope Charlie gets us up and running quickly.

UT is a program where you are just on championships. 7-8 wins will not get it. It's time for everyone to get with the program, because we all need to be pushing in the same direction to get where we need to be.

I expect Strong to lose...the presser.

I expect top 5 recruiting classes every year after this year. This year, I expect top 10 (this may be a little too optimistic, but I am sticking with it).

I expect by year 3, we should have a top 6 in the nation defense.

I personally gave Dooley the benefit of the doubt until mid-season this year. It was so bad at that point, it was obvious that there was no reason to not move forward - even though the competition was unprecedented. Momentum was just too much against him at that point.

Strong has a much stronger situation to work with, but he still deserves three full years, unless the wheels come completely off.

This team has been through a lot. It may take a little time - or not. We will see.

I think year 1 is going to be difficult to do better than 6-6 with our schedule. Need 8-4 by year 2 and at least top 15 in recruiting in first two years.

I say by year 2 he should go to Atlanta. He has the roster now and with a couple of top classes he should get there. All it will take is a signiture win to get these guys going, hopefully early next year.

We need to stay at the house. How long? As long as it takes until UT comes through with their promised home run hire. Empty. Let Neyland be empty.

So you want the team that you pull for to be awful? I don't get it. Who is your ".home run hire"?

I live in Louisville. Charlie Strong's players love him and would do anything for him. When was the last time you could accurately say that about UT?

He gets more out of his 2* and 3* players than we've gotten out of our stellar recruits in years.

If he is the coach, you will see a well-disciplined team on and off the field, who don't wilt under pressure, and who fight to WIN!

Not saying there won't be losses. Other than Neyland, how many coaches have NO losses, but I think the culture of "expecting to lose and hoping to win" would change immediately.

That will put fans in the seats.

I'll second this. Been to a ton of games in my 18 year old life but I ain't wasting anymore money for this garbage hire.

When you get 18 more years under your belt, you won't be as quick to deem something "garbage" so quickly and decisively.

*edit... Only because I'm 36 and that so nicely fits my point did I decide to chime in on that.

I would love to revisit my 18 year old self and advise appropriately.

I am speaking as a "FAN" not a parent right now.

I expect whomever takes over this position at this point we should have extremely high expectations from. I believe "MY DOOLEY" left a great foundation for UT to build on. 2012 class of recruiting was great, those guys are gearing up and anxious to get out there; and with the current commits juco and high schoolers that can be saved... our upcoming season should be great.

I would expect that; and that the credit still goes to Dooley for great recruiting.

Now as a parent; somethings about UT won't change. I know by listening to kids on campus they're just ready to move forward and I feel good knowing that the recruits still love their environment. That's what's important.

Things will work out in the long run. Keep hope alive:mf_surrender:

Hi Mzterry, respect all the info you've brought to the recruiting forum over the last 2 years...

I was always a Dooley supporter. I wished his W-L record reflected the good things he was doing behind the scenes. Brought in some great classes of talented, high character guys, your son being one of them.

That is why I personally like Charlie strong. He took over a chaotic program with a lot of nasty off-field incidents and made them focused. Not just football focused. His leadership brought UofL from facing possible academic ncaa penalties to much improved performance in the classroom and in the community here in Louisville.

I see that as a natural extension of what Dooley was doing.

*I also think he can bring some serious wins to this program too!

 this is funny

How's it funny? I have been to, watched or listened to every single football and basketball game since I could walk or talk. I've been here for some great times and bad. I was there in 04' when Wilhoit hit the game winner, I remember 01' in the swamp like it was yesterday and the 51-43 5 overtime thriller in '03 at bama. Because you are older does not mean you are more wise my friend. The fact is we are about to make the third hiring mistake in the 4 years. Period. 71st in recruiting in the Big East from a coach with an unimpressive track record. (24-14) You Strong supporters are going off of a blind hope that he can somehow win in the SEC. Your age does not make you a better fan. Its very hard to support this hire, because we are TENNESSEE and are capable of so much more. Where has our pride as Volunteer fans gone? Enjoy another 5 years of irrelevance boss. If Strong is hired, the situation will not improve, and that's the bottom line.

I pray you're not right and you'll come here next december and say "I WAS WRONG" and he worked it all out!

Exactly. You hope man. I'd rather be more confident/ sure in the quality of this hire. I just don't see the aura that some of you believe is associated with Charlie Strong.
