There's a nice ice cream place right outside tellico at the beginning (or end) of that ride.

That's where they call Tellico Beach. Everyone stops there. Ice Cream, decent food shack, picnic areas, swimming holes.

are you up to camping for a day or two ?

Fall Creek Falls is a great place to go,has showers and boat rentals for fishing and the Falls are great ,we went for the fishing, but missed the blue gill runs, they should tell you on there site, when it is time for that

go to the Roan High Bluff and camp out, spectacular views ,within easy walking distance,at the Tn/NC line

camp out at Beauty Spot too, that is above Erwin.go to where the Rest area or Welcome center use to be at the top,eat the berries at the over look,if there ripe, there great lol

be sure to hike to Red Fork Falls while there, but be very careful when you go down beside the trail to the bottom of the Falls, easy hike, but it is steep as hell at the Falls, people do get hurt there

Red Fork Falls was in Playboy back in the 70's I think, they had an article on it :) not a glowing one either best as I can remember lol seems they ran into some rednecks lol but everybody I ran into back then seemed all right to me

we would ride up to Beauty Spot to get out of the heat during the summer,it was a short ride from my friends place is Erwin, they lived in front of Chucks Drive In,I think that was the name of it :)

there is a lot of places to camp out up there, try some of them

oh for a fishing trip and an over night camp go to the county line bridge between Morristown and Bean Station,at the boat ramp go down the lake to your right, till it open's up a bit and then go left, there will be a couple of Islands on your right

great place to camp and fish from, the lake is at full pool,so use a Cherokee rig, with chartreuse colors and fish the trees along the banks, that worked years ago anyway,I haven't been in a long time :)

hit the Clinch River for Small Mouths, not many places to camp on it,I can get the places to drop in and get out of,if your interested in that,1/16 oz rooster tails, silver and white, green rubber tailed grubs, and the little silver and black minnow lures, gotta change up in the deeper parts of the river as compared to the rapids and we went down them many a time in a small aluminum boat,my friend bought a kayak and it was a lot easier,we did have to drag the aluminum boat across the shallow rapids, but it was fun :)

I did catch close to a 100 smallies on one trip,I barely caught a legal limit back then, but it was the best day ever :)

I am Cummins Falls (family). My dad coughed up the deed to the waterfall and 25 acres to protect our side. His cousin coughed up his 175 acres. I am very intimate with it and have enjoyed it for 51 years. My back yard overlooks the falls. Our side, horseshoed in by the creek and the main road, is all still private.
Don't have to worry about the falls anymore, but the trade off is the high traffic and the idiots that think our driveway is either the park, or a scenic turnaround through our yard. It is quite spectacular though for what and where it is. One would not know driving by, or hiking in, that it is literally a stones throw over from the road. It is still rather rugged, and same said idiot drivers are probably the ones that don't respect how rugged that little area actually is. Injuries and deaths are still common to those that don't understand the local terrain. Rescue squad almost every weekend. We used to could climb down and possibly not see another soul all day.

Originally, about 450-500 acres of family land between 4 brothers. What's not in the park is still privately owned and occupied by my parents, myself, and my brother with my sister coming in the next year or so. Cousin in Nashville has 90 acres adjoining. The last 30 across from the park was sold out by family living in AZ before any of us, or the park had knowledge to try and buy. That one kinda irks me.

I haven't been there yet, but want to go. I paddled my kayak upstream about two miles on the Roaring River one day from just below the little dam. It's beautiful up there .... I'm jealous

How big are the rattlesnakes?

how long /strenuous is that hike. that sounds good since we will already be there. My wife would require easy to easy plus on hikes. Up to moderate maybe.

Gregory Bald is a moderate to strenuous hike in the GSMNP, it's easiest route is a 5 miler off of Parsons Branch Rd which is closed to motor vehicles right now. the hikes around sugarlands visitors center aren't bad and a few in Cades cove are easier. Try Abrams Falls in Cades cove.

That's up at Frog Level. I've been going there my whole life. Great trout fishing.

Is Parsons Branch closed due to the fires? Had not heard.

Parson's branch still closed. Cades Cove loop just re-opened on May 28. Lot's of trails and access roads still closed due to storms (down trees) and/or fire. Worked my way thru the closings link off the GMSNP site.

To be honest, I have not seen many snakes lately. We have a healthy King and Black snake population, and I have to say I have not seen a venom snake.

You would be hard pressed to paddle the Kayak up toward the falls when it comes off Roaring river. At normal levels, you'd portage alot. When there is enough water to paddle up, the current wouldn't allow it.

Roaring River surely was a nice paddle. That is a serene stretch of water.
