Fair to say UGA football program so elite since its the only sport the school place emphasis on?

Coaching matters and it takes a lot of sustained effort to keep good coaches in place across all of a school’s programs. Much easier for an AD to just take care of the highest profile sport and let the others languish.

Maybe the Georgia Athletic Department believes in the trickle down effect with their other sports lol... Maybe they think the success of the football team will carry to the other sports as a result. I guess they're content being a master of one as opposed to a jack of all trades.

Outside of women’s gymnastics and that one CWS title from back in the day, UGA has gone out of its way not to care about anything other than football.

Good news for them is they’ve cornered the market on football.

Ultimately their approach is not entirely unreasonable. They should be good at everything, but it really doesn't matter. They could win a national title in every single sport but if they went 7-5 every year in football, nobody would care about the other stuff.

I never understood the mens basketball struggles. The girls team was strong, but faced Pat Summit in conference.

But the boys team. All one had to do was get the best talent out of Albany and Macon during the 70s and 80s and there is a team of potential All-Americans every single year. The best coach they ever had could not stop cheating.

Yeah, at the moment very many GA fans will tell you that they don’t care, as long as we are great at football that’s all that matters. And some are being honest when they say this. As for myself, I’m certainly a football guy, i played baseball and basketball also, but football was the only sport I was very good at. But still, I’d love to be able to watch my college team play basketball in March or the baseball team playing in Omaha. It does matter, or at least it should. I’m a big sports fan so I watch March Madness, and I’ve recently watched the super regionals. Well done by the way! I wish I could watch GA in both every year. Win or lose it would add to both tournaments for me.

You’re right though, there is no good excuse why GA can’t at least consistently threaten to make these tournaments. One thing is facilities. GA is at the top in football, but has nothing to brag about with baseball and basketball facilities. Might even say it’s a bit embarrassing. It’s gotta start there.

Don't lie to yourself. I would welcome finishing dead last in everything the last two years. As long as we won the football natty both those years.

True, I’m not saying I would trade it. I’ve waited my whole life for GA to win a NC in football. There was a time or two with CMR I thought it was possible, and then so close in 2017. After all these years, honestly I’d be ok with sucking at every other sport to win just one football NC. I’m just being selfish I guess in that I’d like to see my Dawgs in March Madness and the CWS. I’m human, you always want more

UGA people will point to the Jan Kemp scandal as a reason for that. I can buy that as a reason Dooley didn't win another title, but not for much else. And let's be real - they should have been better than they were pre-1980 too.

Honestly, their longtime mediocrity (or just downright bad play) in basketball and especially baseball is way more baffling. They've been really good at football for a while. Do they have as many titles as they should - probably not - but they've been really good. But they suck at basketball. Baseball isn't as bad as basketball, but you look at the historical performance and go "That's it?" It's wild given the talent base there in that sport. UGA, honestly, should be one of the best programs in college baseball history. They should be up there with a Texas, LSU, Arizona, etc. I just don't think they care, which is a lame excuse because there are other clear football schools that are also great at basketball and/or baseball.

The state of mississippi produces great baseball at THREE universities, yet the state of GA can't produce a top tier program consistently in any particular conference or division level.
