Fall in the recruit rankings......

you should be feeling good because we are light years ahead of where anyone thought we would be right now.

This. If someone would have told me back in March that by the end of September we would have the #6 QB, Miller, Willis, Meline, Cobbs, Jones, and Ambles, there would be no way I would have believed them...

It really doesn't matter as long as the coaches get who THEY want. Especially if they have Crompton looking like a pro by the end of the year. I want to see them get the max potential from the recruits they get. I still think if we had some one of the equivalent of Monte back in the 90's we would've won 2-3 NC's. My philosophy is if your offense can put 28 points on the board then you should win. The D should be able to hold the opponent to less than 27 points.

Following recruiting by Kiffin and Co. should be fun to watch not something to be worried about. Relax and enjoy. :shades:

Once UT gets some consistency on the field the recruits will be calling us. Right now and since Kiffin & Co. were hired, they've been selling theory and dreams. Now that they're starting to see tangible results ,it will be a lot harder for recruits to resist. The fall of Athens will ripple across the nation in recruiting if they can't get it together soon. I'm not totally sold that Brantley will be able to move the UF offense like they're expecting, so that's something to keep an eye on. The proof is and will be in the pudding.

not trying to be a jerk, but Al Wilson was a 4* recruit and the top player in the state of TN when he came out of JCM

So true...I think this is the first time ever that I am actually looking forward to the end of the season just to see who Tennessee signs. I love watching the Vols play football and the new staff really has me excited about recruiting. It's an all new confidence I feel that Tennessee will out recruit any and all schools. It may not happen this year but a good chance it will in years to come.

You guys take too much into these rankings. You can basically flip the top 10 rankings upside down and would have no effect on the field. It's just guesses. The talent gap between 1 and 10 is not very much.

After reading "Meat Market", I put a lot less stock in how many stars a player has. Our coaches don't really care about that. They look at how a player moves on the field and how he competes.

Rivals and Scouts sometimes have to rely on the players to report their game stats. Many players will inflate their numbers because they know it will boost their rating and possibly get them more scholarship offers. They are working the system.

Another problem with the ratings is a kid from Texas (where football is huge) might have the benefit of a weight/nutrition program and playing in the same system for 5 years. When he reaches campus his potential is basically maxed out. Another kid might not look as good but have greater upside once you bring him on campus. Kiffin made this comment last year when talking about Nuke.

These are big reasons why highly rated prospects sometimes don't live up to the hype.

I'm confident that we will have a highly rated class that will produce wins on the field.

Don't forget where Tennessee and Fulmer were last year at this point in the year. Look where we finished with them only having 2-3 months to recruit.

This class automatically will be ranked lower because it's more geared towards DL and OL, where the players typically have fewer stars.

Stars smars..... I think our coaches are the best evaluators in college football. They can also coach look at the walkons and guys who the other coaching staff threw under the bus.See how much improvement they have made. I do have to eat some crow about crompton. I'm not fully sold out but will be with a game-managed performance against bama. Love our staff. Always working, always coaching.

Which, in itself, would seem to make "stars" irrelevant besides as a simple educated guess. These guys can be rated by everyone in the country, but he only people that matter are on our coaching staff. I think their combined NFL experience makes them more qualified to spot players who will have an impact on our team than any star rating ever could. Our team's combined star rating dropped when Warren was kicked off the team. That seemed to work just fine last week.

We lost Bruce Irvin. That's the only cause for concern. The reason we dropped was solely b/c of losing his commitment, and so it means nothing other than how much losing Irvin would hurt us. It won't affect anyone else's commitment. My point is, I really don't care as much about where we end up in recruiting rankings at the end of the day as long as we get the best players that fit our style of play. What matters most to me are the rankings that come out in January, not the ones in February.

I'm don't really look at the stars either but it does feel good to see our team in the top 5 in recruit. What we need like everyone is saying getting DL and Ol and make sure we get a good solid quarterback.Brown is going to be awesome next season I look for him to avg 100 rushing per game. Lane and the boys will make sure we get what we need.

I understand totally. I only brought it up because after last year, it seems that most of our fanbase expects to pull a Top 3 class, or they will say this staff of recruiting experts "sucks". quote]

Looks like you joined the board in 2007 so you should know, we could have a #1 class and some nummed-nut negavol will claim the recruiting class sucks. They were born that way and can't help it.

One group will call them Fulmerites and the other will say they are Kiffinites.

There isn't much difference in being ranked 3rd vs. 7th really. To me all that matters is that we recruit to the same level as our fellow SEC schools particularly Florida, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, and Alabama. Then let coaching take over once they arrive on campus. Our problem has been we didn't recruit consistently at a high level under Fulmer. One class would be good and then followed by two so so classes.

My goodness. It is only October. This thinking is like watching each minute tick in the stock market. Get a grip!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if a super stud QB will emerge in his senior season and we pick him up. Maybe a long shot, but wouldn't be surprised.
