Fannie and Freddie Bonuses - Where's OWS?

oh so you only have an issue with the amount of money and not that they have given large amounts of taxpayer dollars to executives running a failing company?

No, but I'm not the one trying to argue that the two situations are similar.

As I say, I don;t think that they should get bonuses, either. At least, I would say, they should not if they were in place before around 2006. You could make an argument that folks coming into those positions now, working to limit the losses, perhaps they need to get paid.

But folks in some way tied to this fiasco, no, they should not be getting bonuses, I agree.

so no outrage just a simple "they shouldn't get paid" will do? Telling

The two situations are too dissimilar, in my view.

of course they are and probably would be for any undecided voter

I don't think they should be getting bonuses, either.

But the situations are not comparable and so the feigned outrage that OWS is not as concerned about FM bonuses as, say, bonuses at Citi, it just rings hollow to me.

Forget the bonuses, what about the Government backed, cheap, low down payment mortgages on Million Dollar Homes? Where is the outrage?

Its a subsidy for the rich and those who put 20% down on 300K homes are suckers

And how does that compare to the WS bonuses at same level? Less than 10 percent?

So you are justifying this?

If you read the thread you'd also see that the WS bonuses were for the most part not paid by tax payers. The majority of TARP banks did not request nor need the TARP monies and repaid them in full plus interest. With the possible exception of AIG - tax payers did not fund the bonuses.

FF are in receivership. They continue to lose vast amounts of money that is coming DIRECTLY from tax payers. That tax money is DIRECTLY paying the bonuses.

Given what OWS apparently stands for - FF should be the poster child. For some reason though it is not.

Fannie was founded to make more affordable housing available to all....and then they were given a loan amount limit of like $950K or something like that!!!! Did anybody really think this program was going to work out the way it was intended?

In case no one has previously mentioned it, the two chief execs that oversaw their downfall, are now top economic advisors for the BHO administration.

Fannie and Freddie have the same revolving door into the capitol and both parties that Government Sachs and other financial giants do.
