i can honestly say i don't ever recall going to opal's.

the roman room was OK...not one of my usuals though.

Flamingos was oK at one point in time...great to go see live music.

no one seems to have any love for the 'Branch either.

Opals been there many times endangered my life walking across the street to get to it from Toddys three sheets to the wind.

Does Vic n Bills count as a bar ? cause I was always drunk when I was there, but hell if that is the standard I guess Krystals, Smoky Mnt. Market, and Gus's are grills too

Ahh yes the Branch and Lucilles-now the backroom.
Not a great joint but underneath of The Library was a place called the Backstage, got to see Minor Threat there before they closed it.

1. Roman Room.
2. Opal's
3. Preservation Pub(In the days when they had the hottest bartenders in town.)
4. GSB/DTG&B-They're in the process of making the same mistake Preservation Pub did regarding staffing.
5. Macleod's-Herschel was the true pioneer on Market Square.
6. La Paz/Chez Guevarra
7. The Spot
8. Toddy's-Overrated, but still fun.
9. Ivory's-Hidden gem.
10.The Bistro-Best place in Knoxville to have a drink in peace.

what if you don't like going to the campus/old city area? too far to drive home.

The condo I own in Knoxville is downtown, so I don't have that problem. I would consider La Paz/Chez Guevarra to be in West Knoxville. Restaurant Linderhoff in Farragut is a cool place to get dinner and drinks. Bullfeather's isn't bad.

As I totter off into my "Cootage" (as in Old Coot), I miss these watering holes:

Sam & Andy's (either the Tennessean or the Roman Room)

The Back Door Tavern when PeeWee ran the place - any bar with a collection of six-guns and Winchesters mounted behind the bar had my vote.

Alice's Restaurant on Cumberland listening to Gibney and Gibson on weekends

Roger's Place - coldest beer in the lower 48.

Antonio's Pizza on Cumberland

The Little Dutch Tavern - coldest beer including Alaska

Buddy's BBQ back when they did bluegrass on weekends.

I'm off to the Home now ...

I usually go to buffalo wild wings on cheap wing nights. Their beer is real cheap.

I like downtown brewery, as well..but usually only go on Tuesday nights.

Copper Cellar is a good place to have a drink on wednesday's. You can get a 3.99 burger/fries and 1.50 drafts. I recommend the Cherokee Red Ale.

I don't really get out to the bars all that much, though...but Charlie Peppers is ok, i guess...as is Toddy's. Not a big fan of Longbranch, unless I feel like drinking schlitz and hanging out with old women that smoke.

I usually only barhop when I travel to other cities..when I'm going out in Knoxville, I stick with the same old places.

I guess more than anything, I just drink at home with my roommates or go out to parties. I'd rather buy a 5.00 cup on a Saturday night than I would 3.00 drafts...

4620

I heard 4620 closed. That might not be true, however. Regardless, my current favorite bar has to be Downtown Grill and Brewery. Joining the Mug Club was one of the smarter investments I made while in college.
