I am friends with several Vols throughout the 90's. I was with a player friend in the hotel lobby sometime after we beat Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl. I was introduced to Mr. Denton. I asked him to say "tackle by Tyrone Hines". He did! It was classic and it made us all laugh!! Go Vols!!!

I always liked how he set up the FG attempts:

____________ to snap,

____________ to hold,

____________ to attempt.

It's GOOOOOD!

Yep. I liked the combo: Ingram to snap, price to hold, Hall to attempt. That was a sure thing!

I remember that too. That was an afternoon game against UAB as I recall. Ohio State was #1 and lost at home to Michigan State (coached by Saban). We didn't get the Jumbtron until the next year though, so Denton was still giving the "other scores of interest" with regularity. I vividly remember leaving the UAB game and catching the end of the Ohio St/Michigan St game at O'Charley's on Cumberland (miss that place btw). The Arkansas game was the next week....Ahhh, great memories.

I also remember at that game we sat around after Tennessee beat UAB and he kept us up-to-date on the Ohio State Michigan State game. If Ohio State lost, which they did, Tennessee would be ranked number one.

My favorite moment that I was there for was for sure the 2007 Vanderbilt game. It was a close game going down to the wire and everyone was still really tuned in to the game. I had been noticing the other scores on the board throughout the game, but it never really hit me until Bobby dropped a "scores of interest". Everyone quieted down when he said it and he said something to the effect of "In a final score UL Monroe 21..." here he paused for several seconds while the stadium was silent and he finally let it go "...Alabama 14". I remember everyone going nuts and you could tell he enjoyed breaking the news just from his delivery.

I was there for that one as well.

Scores of interests were golden. He was still doing them on my last visit in 2011.

If it was one he knew would get a rise out of the crowd he would usually pause between the team name and the score, then drop the score sort of nonchalant knowing exactly what he was doing.

But if say FL was beating UGA he would kind of mumble it out real quick.

".....and a HOST of Volunteers...."

....to snap
....to hold
....to attempt

Denton reading the starting lineups was great too.

Ward did it too. But Denton at game.

A very sad day for a Vol fan....

Man I'm about to cry. So, so, so many memories. Things are ever changing on the hill. I really hope they incorporate old audio of him as part of the tradition moving forward. It's only the right thing to do.

Another classic Bobby Denton moment was the 1993 Duke game. Steve Spurrier JR was a WR for Duke and caught a few passes in the game... After each of his catches Bobby Denton would say, "Pass...complete.... to Steeeeeve Spurrrrier Juuuunior!!!!!!!!!"...Giving a long pause between each word and making sure to slur his name as long as possible to give the crowd as much time to boo him as possible....AND WE DID!...Denton played the Neyland crowd like a fiddle.

I can remember a year or two ago, there was a thread with some folks saying that Bobby needed to be replaced. I hope those same folks have read through these memories....and I hope their eyes are as misty as mine. He will definitely be missed.

It's GOOOOOD!

He did that because he said those guys were underrated and under appreciated. They needed to get their due as well. Plus he said it was great because their parents got to hear it as well.
