The Night Before is a pretty good, new Xmas movie. I loved Michael Shannon in it

Good movie. Shannon is such a wonderfully awkward weirdo, and a great actor...plus my man crush is in that movie.

I know I'm in the minority, but I hate A Christmas Story. Probably because, I think it's TBS that plays it non stop every Christmas and it was on that channel all day every year at my in laws.

I can't watch the whole thing at once. But during that 24 hours I may end up watching bits and pieces that add up to the whole movie

The Family Stone is a very good Christmas movie.

That one hits way too close to home for my family. I can’t do it. My mother in law was going through the same thing at the exact time that it came out.

It's a wonderful life is a beautiful movie man...come on.

That is how you determine who the douche is. Even more so than being a bammer.

Aside from a good (though far from his best) performance by Jimmy Stewart, it's just a saccharine, predictable, schlock-fest.

The best thing about that movie is the "lost ending" parody that SNL did with Dana Carvey and Phil Hartman.

It is a feel good movie, it is supposed to be hopeful, it is not meant to be a dark ugly movie filled with predictable cynicism. It has a beautiful story that teaches a great lesson, and has great characters. It is a beautiful movie to anybody with a heart.

This is pretty funny:

The great lie is, of course, that the 1946 Frank Capra film It’s a Wonderful Life is an uplifting tale of kindness rewarded by kindness, and that true riches come from friendship with a bunch of ****ing morons who don’t know how banks work. For some asinine reason we’ve agreed to let this movie into our homes every holiday to lie to us and make us feel good that we’re trapped in the unending cycle of alienation, remorse, and eventual death that is this thing we call we “life.” If George Bailey can overcome his realization that his life is pointless and he is an ant just waiting to be ground into cosmic dust by the inevitable march of time by singing songs with his idiot friends, then surely we can make it through one ******n family dinner, Janet, just hold it together for once will you?

It’s a Wonderful Life bombed when it was released in 1946 because 1946 people were made of iron forged in the blood fires of their enemies. They didn’t need the comforting pap of a god who would send a ****ty, second-rate angel to trick you into accepting your lot as a drudge. But over time we have decided to embrace It’s a Wonderful Life and have become complicit in its lie that friendship and children you can’t afford are enough to stem the unending horror of existence. But really It’s a Wonderful Life is a turd movie meant to convince you to stay in your dumb hick town and give up on your dreams. It’s a **** volcano spewing poisonous diarrhea lava all over the middle class aspirations of America.

Throughout his life, from childhood on, we see that the only desire George Bailey has is to leave Bedford Falls and travel the world and also build things. George wants to do “something big, something important,” and his dad immediately starts discouraging him, preferring him to stay at home and run their ****ty savings and loan company. Mary, the girl who loves George unconditionally for wholly unknown reasons, also wishes for George to stay in town, because no one actually supports his dream of upward mobility self-betterment.

This is the incipient lie at the heart of this movie—no one actually wants George to be happy on his own terms. The longer George stays in Bedford Falls the more miserable he becomes—not even Mary’s devotion or his brood of wiener kids can alleviate his depression and despondency. The message of It’s a Wonderful Life is not that friendship is magic, it’s that decent people stay in their lane and remain miserable so that their ****ed friends can keep being irresponsible leeches who survive on the misery of the George Baileys of the world.

'It's A Wonderful Life' is a Terrible Awful Movie about Mediocrity and Sameness

Give me a break.

It's a movie that bombed upon release, and one that no one gave a crap about until the idiot producers let the copyright lapse, allowing television programmers to run cheap content. It's a "BELOVED HOLIDAY CLASSIC" despite the fact that Christmas is 100% irrelevant to the plot. Christmas is more important to the plot of The Godfather than it is to It's a Wonderful Life. The hero is a sad-sack, the villain is a cartoon character, and absolutely no one seems to give a crap about resolving the incident upon which the entire movie hinges.

I forgot to add Love Actually. That’s a great movie. I’m sure I’ll get roasted for that, but there is no shame in my game.

The polar express was unwatchable. Can’t quite put my finger on why though. The animation looked weird and the story was all over the place.

The animation was an early version of mocap. It's very crude by today's comparison but for it's time it was very cutting edge. While I agree the animation is kind of creepy, i think the movie itself is exceptional. The only part I hated was the goofy Stephen Tyler-looking elf on the unicycle.

What do you mean when you say the story was all over the place? I had no trouble following it.

The Ref. Spacey notwithstanding, funny film.

A Midnight Clear. GIs and Germans facing off in WWII as Christmas nears. Sad but very good film.

Night of the Comet. Camp about a comet that wipes out humanity and turns survivors into zombies a week before Christmas. Catherine Mary Stewart was a hot 80s girl.

Christmas in Connecticut and White Christmas are both superior to It's a Wonderful Life IMO.

That was Steven Tyler. He also sung the song that the elfs were dancing too after Santa left titled "Rockin' On Top of the World".

I'm nearing 50, but I still love watching all the stop motion animation children's specials.

Yep, Good ole Rankin & Bass.

One of my favorite Rankin & Bass Christmas specials was after they moved to Animation called 'Twas the Night Before Christmas about a mouse who doesn't believe in Santa and destroys the town clock.
