He just always seemed to be in the wrong place at the right time. He did win the 1986 Talledega race making him the youngest Cup winner at the time, 22. His first Cup race he was still in high school, the youngest at that too.
He seemed to be alienated from most of the other drivers, he was cocky. He blamed his lack of winning on his team owners, The Stavola Brothers, for being absentee owners. They lived in New Jersey.
That was the gist of my post. The #2 Rod Osterland car was the first to use the yellow & blue colors. I saw Dale, Sr. win his first race at Bristol in that car. James Stacy bought the team, but Earnhardt quit to go to Childress the first time. Mark Martin, Tim Richmond, Mike Alexander and Morgan Shepherd drove the 2 car. I worked for Stacy when Morgan drove it. He is one of the nicest drivers ever, very religious and strong in conviction. He refused to drive a car sponsored by a beer or tobacco company.
