Tee Martin has to be one of my favorites. I am pretty young (17) and don't remember many players. But Tee really impressed me and has been one of my idols. He did have some pretty extra large shoes to fill though.

I loved watching Tee, and Peyton. I still remember the first game Peyton came in, after Jerry Colquitt got hurt.

My favorites are still the guys from the 80s like Tony Robinson, Tim McGee, Willie Gault, Reggie White. Also, the Cobb-Webb offense from the '89 season was fun to watch while it lasted.

Tony Robinson. Head cocked back, sweatbands on the ankles, signaling first down to the crowd on every first down and of course crushing #1 ranked Auburn on national tv while also sending Bo Jackson in for an early shower. Probably my single favorite Vol victory.

At the top of the list is none other than Peyton Manning. Others include Reggie White, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Al Wilson, Carl Pickens, Stanley Morgan, Johnny Mills (tops during his tenure-GO CYCLONES!), Jamal Lewis. Too many others to include.

There are way too many favorites to list because of their performances at UT. But, being a long time native of Griffin, Ga till recent years, I always like the home kids getting recruited to UT. The 2 biggest names there would be Willie Gault and Fred Smith. There was Vic Vandergriff and some others from Gaults senior class that got to go to UT because of him and saw limited action, although they were great players during the glory years of Griffin High's state powerhouse football. We got alot of attention over the years from UT because of Gault before we started fading away. When I was in 8th grade, the Jr. High track had to sit on the hill while the varsity sprinters finished up their 4x400's before we could run. Gault's raw speed was unmatched at the time. It was so exciting to see him run. He could catch the ball in a crowd and 60 yards later no one would even be close to him. Even at UT, he was a potential breakaway everytime he touched the ball. To this day, he probably still has a top 5 state record in the 100. I think he did it in 9.9 then as a senior. Ronnie Dennis broke it 4 years later in 1983 at 9.8, also from Griffin.

As the avatar says - Big Al

May not be a popular choice but I always liked Dale Carter too. Whenever he was in on a play it was going to be spectacular - just not always for the team you were cheering for

Each punt return had a 50/50 chance of being six for the Vols or a muff for the other team.

Got give a shout out for Joey Clinkscales and Andre Creamer as well. Don't forget Reggie White's other half - Mike Cofer.

Leonard Little wreaked havoc.

And as I've posted before - William Howard

#1a is without a doubt Reggie White, may he rest in peace. He was every bit as great a person off the field as he was a great player on it.

#1b is the pride of Gallatin High School, Thomas "TD" Woods. He left as UT's alltime leading reciever, but he was always in the shadow of his teammates Harper and Pickens. Last I heard he was on Coach Cut's staff at Ole Miss. Hopefully he'll land back on his feet and make it in the coaching profession.

A couple of late additions -- not necessarily "atheletes," but players in the game, nonetheless:

The Voice of the Vols, John Ward. I bet every man in Orange over the past few decades hears the famous call in his head as he sprints into the checkerboard. "Ten, Five, Four, Three, Two, One. . . .Give Him Six, Touchdown, Tennessee!"

The Faithful 109,000-Strong Sea-Of-Orange

John Ward was responsible for my first introduction to Tennessee football, riding in a car on a family vacation when I was only 6 or 7 years old.

Hey, you can't have UT football without the "voice of the Vols", John Ward. He also called UT men's basketball. Gotta love the guy. He was "awesome."
I loved to hear him mention just before gametime, "It's football time in Tennessee!"

If you asked around my school, you will get a pretty unanimous answer. "Ainge. Oh yeah... Didn't Peyton Manning go there?" The Peyton part will come from about 1/3 of the kids you ask.

Are there many Vol fans out west, other than because of Erik?

I have a picture of Al Wilson in my office staring at me. I'm going to list him as 1A.

1B is Travis Stephens and I'll tell you why:

Did you know he made All American?

Was the LAST guy on the depth chart in '98, ended up contributing greatly throughout the season, especially in Georgia game, SEC Champ game and National Championship game.

He stepped aside in '99 and redshirted to let Jamal have his year, ultimate team player. Played second fiddle to Travis Henry in 2000.

In 2001, ran for 1,464 yards. I most fondly remember him blowing up the Florida defensive backfield in 2001.
