Andrew McCarthy has an interesting article in National Review Online. Sorry, but I don't know how to link. Anyway, his premise is that the FBI's stated purpose for the warrant was to search the property for classified material, which they knew was on the property. However, the FBI's actual intent was to concurrently search for January 6 smoking guns, which, if found during the course of the authorized search for classified material, could be seized.

So Trump as President had the power to declassify any document he wanted. Biden has the power to classify any document he chooses. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if Biden intentionally classified documents Trump declassified so that he could send the FBI after him. If true, we are in a political crisis unlike anything ever seen before.

First, it's irrelevant. Even if he declassified them, they belong to the country, by statute. He can declassify all he wants.... but he can't thereby take them with him.

I won't presume to tell you how to judge anyone. I assume you will be intellectually honest so that you can feel confident in your judgements. I feel very confident in my judgement that the FBI did not exhibit a fealty to the rule of law during the Trump presidency. And that was FBI-internal driven, not Trump driven.

I feel very confident the majority of people at both the FBI and DOJ are qualified people with integrity. I’m also confident that Trump, trying to run the presidency like a mob boss, asked repeatedly for unconditional loyalty from the FBI and DOJ, especially regarding his Russia investigation. Loyalty that he did not receive (well, until he appointed the right stooge to AG).
