I keep reading where some assume that if Coach Jones goes with one if the Freshman quarterbacks, it will no doubt be Ferguson. I maybe wrong, but I thought that I read where Dobbs played better during the Soring game. Just looking for insight from some that may had rationale behind these speculations.

Just because he played decent in the spring game doesn't mean he plays good all the time...Can't quite figure out what this thing is with Dobbs that some UT fans are so excited about...I mean he is an ok qb from his highlights but nothing to write home about.

I know 100% for fact Dobbs did not play well in the Spring game. Neither did Fergie. They both played like they weren't even on campus yet.

Being active duty Army and hardly ever getting back to Knoxville, I do not get all the news about the team that I would like. My question was not meant to choose sides, but rather ask if Ferguson has done enough in practice to set him apart from Dobbs or the other way around.

Maybe you are thinking of the open practice? Those two did not play in the Orange and White game.

As for who is better...I don't think anyone here knows but that won't stop anyone from assuring you one is worlds ahead of the other.

From everything I've read both here and elsewhere Ferg seems to be ahead of Dobbs at this point. I'm like u, Im not choosing sides, I just want whoever gives us the best chance each Saturday.

no one has any idea what these 2 offer. we have only seen a few practice videos, and high school highlight films.

The Vols only had two scholarship QB's on campus for the Spring Game, Worley and Peterman. Both Dobbs and Ferguson were in high school last spring.

What do you WRITE HOME about...this ain't 1970...really I have nothing...I'm not proud of this...not my best work...on topic...I was all Dobbs based on recruiting write-ups, but I've been swayed by the Riley Ferguson buzz...maybe...just maybe THEY'RE BOTH GREAT...we'll just have to let Butch pick the one...more great?...bad grammar done intentionally :)

I thought I read where Dobbs was faster, stronger arm and got rid if the ball quicker. Now having said that, if he is not accurate, all these thing mean nothing.

Dont know if he's accurate or not, just know we cant get any worse by giving him a shot. Heck, you think Worley is accurate?

I think this was a direct jab. I opened myself up for this one and like a gentleman, you took advantage. I was talking if the open practice as another poster brought to my attention.

I can understand if CBJ wants to ease a FR QB into the game. Especially in the SEC......playing a FR QB can be risky. I'm not sure who has the advantage between Ferg and the Dobbmyster but at one time CBJ preferred a somewhat mobile QB.

Okay first, neither of them were on campus for the spring game.

Secondly, and more to your point, Ferguson has more arm talent than any QB we have. Close to the strength and quick release that Bray had. However, while not a statue, he isn't exceptionally mobile (not that he needs to be). He's also shown great competitiveness and toughness in his high school days and in camps.

Dobbs can be considered dual threat, but he's also pass first and not exceptionally mobile. But he is supposed to be very smart (whatever that means on a football field).

Most people want Ferguson because of his arm and toughness. I hope this helps.

Thanks, exactly the insight I was looking for.

I've only watched film and some of the elite 11 they were on. My lean is to Ferguson but it's only a gut feeling. I wouldn't mind seeing both in all honesty.

Also OP as a former member of the Army thanks for all you give to this great nation.

Go Vols
