Field Conditions

The last time I remember the Vols having to play wintery conditions was the 2001 Cotton Bowl. The grass field was partially covered with patches of ice and some snow. Casey Clausen struggled to keep his balance at times and ended up throwing three picks but Travis Henry was able to run for 180 yards in a 35-21 loss that wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Regardless of whether it's snowing, raining, windy, or just plain freezing...I suspect the Vols are trying to mimic as many winter weather environments leading up to the game. Hopefully, OSU has built in heaters under the turf to keep it from being too difficult to run or pass on as not having this would obviously affect both sides.

Are field conditions for playoff games somehow monitored? What is to keep a team from soaking the field or letting the grass grow a bit longer to slow down a running team? It happens in baseball all the time.
Don’t fret. Pasadena grounds crew keeps the Rose Bowl grass in the most pristine conditions. No cutting corners with that crew.
