Recruiting rankings are all about hype. The more hype the higher the ranking.
Aaaaaw, gunner. That sounds like porch talk; like a quip and a shrug...then the gool ol' boys usually nod and chuckle in agreement. Real numbers have shown us that, despite an agreed upon modicum of hype, some real sports analysists spend a lot of quality time researching thousands of players, and I challenge you to come up with a more overall accurate system. If you can do that, you'll be a rich man. These are all high school teenagers, so clear thinking should reveal absolute predictability is impossible... short of some metaphysical crystal ball. JG and Patterson may, indeed, be the best two qbs in the class of 2016, and even though their numbers may be a bit skewed, let's figure they'll live up to the hype. As for the rest of the recruits...I'm still confident that there's no better setup for rating these fellas...naturally with a LITTLE BIT of hype involved.:hi:

We all know jg should be a 5*. He could've have been if he wanted to be a fake azz. That's what a lot of these kids do. They act like they're interested in every school there is. The more offers, the more notoriety they get. The kids that comitt early and don't court other schools don't end up ranked quite as high. Doesn't matter though. He going to come here and get the chance to be a starter for several years

I think you're confusing the composite with 247's internal ranking. JG is still 71 in the composite, number 1 dual threat.

247's internal rankings this year have been strange. It's possible the dearth of talent in this class at certain positions has confused their analysts.

THIS!!! For all those freaking out over JG, don't fret. The article clearly stated that they are reviewing all the player rankings. They decided on the top 32, but everything after that is still undecided. No JG didn't get a 5 star and wasnt considered one of the top 32 players, but i think it is very likely he receives a bump fron 247s rating of 93 and 190 player ranking. Once this happens his composite should jump from 71 as well.

I wouldn't trade one for the other either. The services are obviously going to use the all star events for their final rankings. Patterson shined better when the lights came on in the game with the services there. Guarantano struggled at his AA game. Doesn't mean a lot to be honest. I don't think it's crazy though to see a service putting on an event to adjust their rankings based off the results they saw.

JG also got less than 10 snaps, was playing last after having earned the starting spot in the events beforehand, and had receivers stone handing his throws. It's like analysts looked solely at his stat sheet and completely ignored the work he put in during the week that had him being labeled as a "future five star".

I have been following recruiting at UT since 1997. I am familiar with all the classic arguments about two (think Dooley) vs three vs four vs five stars and what not. I can tell you this, we have had some high four star ballers come through UT in the last 18 years and many have gone on to play on Sundays. He is who he is. A high four star or five star rating at the end of the day will do nothing to magically morph him into a worse or better player (I realize many of you know this...just saying).

I know recruiting rankings are important and for the most part great recruiting success means you are winning at a high level (i.e. Bama, Ohio State, Clemson Etc). I tend to look more at which school has offered a player instead of the stars that are attached to their name. UT has had their fair share of highly rated players that did not live up to the hype.

This. Rather than get caught up in the starry hype, it seems to be more significant when we beat the likes of AL, FL, Miami, Ohio State, etc. for a kid's commitment. Top-five and traditionally strong SEC programs have great evaluators and recruiters too.

I think the only effect of these rankings is that it might motivate JG even more. The players do pay attention to these rankings and I guarantee you he is better than 190 overall and he will be able to prove it.

Ouch not a single UT commit inside top 150, think JG's rank is way too low, hope we improve this class
