With a 2010 class that includes Tobias Harris, Jordan McRae and Trae Golden, Bruce Pearl has to be happy to know for certain he'll also have former McDonald's All-American Scotty Hopson still on campus next season.

Hopson told GoVolsXtra.com that regardless of where he's projected to land in the draft, he'll be returning for his junior season after many thought he might make the jump in just one season.

The potential go-ahead free throw he missed in the Elite Eight against Michigan State was definitely a deciding factor.

"I watched the rest of the tournament knowing we deserved to be in that position in the Final Four,'" Hopson said. "It's definitely in the back of my mind, and it's added motivation that I missed a free throw that could have put us ahead.'"

Hoops pundits have been predicting a Final Four run for the Vols seemingly every year since Pearl arrived in Knoxville. With his ability to reload and get the most out of his players, Pearl will keep knocking on that door until it falls down. Maybe in 2011?

Don't see it happening since we didn't get Selby. Not sure it would have happened even with him.

No. We've had our run. Basketball has plateaued. This year was our chance.

Really? Even with what we have still on the team and higher levels of talent coming in every year? That is not my definition of a plateau. I am not saying Final Four in 2011, but we have not missed our chance. We will be knocking on that door again soon IMO.

It's possible, but without Selby, it's hard to call it likely. I'd imagine we'll end up seeded in the 3-6 range, so we'll have a shot with a couple upsets, but we won't be the favorites. Of course, a lot can change between now and March. Just ask the 2009-10 Vols.

After the last year, who the hell knows? I know this question is the epitome of why message boards exist, but since I was convinced we had Selby until Saturday by some on here and a friend of mine AND convinced The Vols were doomed and Pearl would be fired (and how overdue that was) on Jan. 2, think I'll start paying attention to more credible sources like my pet turtle and astrologers....

But, by all means, feel free to say that not getting Selby is the reason The Vols will not get to the Final Four and Hopson will lose playing time to the freshmen. If it is consensus here, I'll pretty much take the odds on the other side of the argument...

UT bball has definitely hit its peak. With Cal in Lexington now it is all over. Rumors are saying he will sign CJ Leslie and Terrance Jones this season and has already signed the top player next year and has a legitimate shot of having 4 out of the top 10 players and arguably the best recruiting class in NCAA history for 2011-2012. It was good while it lasted, but all we are going to have now is memories of an elite 8 run.

As I told you in the other thread, go back to Catspause.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... How'd that #1 ranked recruiting class work out for him last year? How many out of that class are still in school for 2010-11?

Out of the 5 players leaving, only 2 have signed an agent. Patterson told reporters he could just as likely return as go to the NBA. Orton's and Bledsoe's draft stock is dropping so they could likely return as well. When was the last time Tennessee had that kind of freshman talent on a team? Or talent period for that matter?
I don't remember, but at least we can beat you at least once in 25 years in basketball.

When was the last time both teams made it to the Elite Eight? Who went further that year?

Tell me about the guy he has already signed for next year. When you're finished, get all the hypothetical crap out and call back. Better yet, don't, as the number od stupid people on this site is spiraling out of control. Given the exponential math, you'll save us hordes more. Thanks.

Is there some kind of rule that says only one SEC team can make the Elite 8 from now on? Or, is Kentucky going to be so good that they will field multiple teams that take up the entire Final Four?

Otherwise, it doesn't matter how good UK is. We can still have a great team and advance well into the tournament.

No. So what? What are the odds that we'll see the same magnitude of upsets next year that happened this year?
Odds? If you want to talk odds, then yes the odds of us making a final 4 are slim. However, I think it's foolish to say there's no way it will happen. Is it likely? No. But there's definitely a decent chance.

I just don't see our odds that much worse than a lot of the "top tier" teams out there. I see only 6 or 7 teams who have better odds than we do of making the final 4. Aside from maybe Purdue, nearly everyone has question marks going into next season.

Fact is no one has ever had that level of freshmen talent. However, Cal could go no further than we could with our much less talented team. Wonder who did the best coaching job?
