I rarely criticized him, maybe once, but I was definitely fed up with the defense the last three years prior to this.

Same. I wanted Banks gone last year. Boy I was dead wrong. Hopefully we can somehow hang onto him.

I didn't actively wish for him to be fired or speak up about my feelings much but I thought we'd be better off going in a different direction. This could be the best defense we've had in my lifetime and I'm ashamed I voted in this poll

Most reasonable people did. It was not pretty up until this year. This defense caught everybody by surprise but the cat is out of the bag now. Banks needed some time to install his system and his guys. Fair enough.

There was definitely enough evidence, in hindsight to see how last year things were turning around from the previous two. There was no way to see this happening with the complete revamp of the backfield and I think we're all quite astounded. Doesn't mean there wasn't evidence that the defense outside of Martinez didn't show a lot of improvement last year. They were hit hard by the loss of Pili and the LBers struggled, but not as bad as before, and the line was lights out.

In the past the inevitable was just so..imminent that I never enjoyed a snap when we weren't on offense.
I still get antsy when we don't have the ball, but I feel better watching the defense than I have since the 90s.

At First this felt like some of the later Fulmer teams where the defense just kept us in games where the offense flopped around like a dead fish. Now it feels like Al Wilson and Leonard Little and Dale Carter and Deon Grant are on the field all at the same time

Firing a coach who's going to put the greatest D in generations on the field is being dead wrong. Success isn't built one year at a time. We don't want the type of coach who's gonna load up for one shot and then be fired three years later because he's out of juice and never knew how to sustain success.

The fact is, we don't pay these guys' nuts and I don't believe any man should be going around calling for another man's job. I felt that way very strongly at the end about Phil and still mostly feel that way.

Obviously some coaches need firing. Dooley was mailing it the hell in on us and getting questionable medical procedures cuz he knew he was done for and wanted to milk us. Butch was a liar and disrespected some of our legends iirc. Cornbread was a cheating Gump who should have never been hired to begin with and was going to get us the death penalty if something hadn't been done.

But what it comes down to is any money that any of us spend on the football program is on our choice. Its like investing in the stock market, only we don't get anything out of it financially. Nobody holds a gun to our heads when we buy tickets or pick up a power T hat at Walmart or when we make a donation to NIL. So I don't believe I've got a moral justification stomping my feet and demanding to the void that some dude must be fired 3 years in.

I know most don't feel that way, and it isn't my place to judge them, but it personally just gives me a dirty feeling and feels spiteful to talk this way.

I always defended the defense. We were decent the last three years despite limited depth and our guys having to be on the field most of the game. The only issue we had was the secondary struggling, but otherwise the defense has been solid.

I don’t think it’s that dumb. I don’t mind. In hindsight it probably wasn’t realistic for defenses to be that great the first couple years. There was improvement every year, we as fans just yet impatient at times and that’s fine. It’s called being human. We can have a laugh at it

I was probably one. This is the first year the defense is not a weakness and is a suprising turn around. I actually think slowing down the offense has been a huge help. I don't think anyone that voted yes is disapointed in being wrong on this one. I remember you being all about some Butch Jones and defending him vehemently.

Out D front was not a weakness last year, it was our secondary and a little young and thin at linebacker. We have played tough overall up front from the beginning with Heupel because Garner gets the most out of them guys. Now we are deeper there and more talented and we finally got LB and DB’s that are very good. I knew we were going to be good on D, we have dudes!!!! And I voted NO on the banks change I am happy to say. GBO

I’ve always liked him as well. I think it’s safe to say he has far exceeded all my expectations. Dude has put an unreal squad together.

I've really liked his approach from day 1. Said on here that once he got the players it should look like Venables' Clemson teams. Still not quite there, but closing in.

Dude you forgot what he took over. You don’t become a top quality SEC defense overnight especially with the situation we were in when they took over. Our D line coach got the most out of his group from the JUMP. Our primary weakness the previous 2 years was depth at LB and good corner play. McCoy and Gibson are playing well. The secondary overall has improved and we have some good young linebacker talent that is gaining it‘s footing. Wanting instant results from when he came on board was kind silly actually. GBO
