I have been a harsh critic of Holly for the last two years.She was the head coach no matter the reason why that that lost multiple digit games and had little offense against zone defenses.Showed little leadership with the many talented All Americans she had on the team.
Having said the above many times ,I have to give her a BIG SHOUT OUT for employing a zone defense predominately against TEXAS because it disrupted the Texas offense mightily in the 1st 3 quarters and was a major reason they won the game.
It was an ugly game offensively for both sides especially in the 1st half.The freshmen played like freshmen in the 1st half but came thru like champs when the chips were really down in the 4th quarter.Refs had a lot to do with disrupting the flow of the game offensively but the LV's had really poor shot selection up until the start of 3rd quarter ....all but Mercedes.
It was a physical game and the LV's gave as good as they got standing toe to toe uncowed and that is one of the real positives coming out of this game.
Errors were plentiful by LV's and Holly has enough on tape from this game to keep her busy for this next week stressing to the team corrections that need to be made moving forward in prep for their road trip to West Coast.It will be interesting to see how this team progresses for rest of year .....and a lot of that depends on Holly because she has the new ( 1st year on team ) talent ( with no serious injuries ) to go really deep into the NCAA tourney.
