Got tickets for the Vanderbilt game. This will be my first time ever going to a Tennessee game. Live in Northern Virginia. Been a UT fan since I was born. Looking for input from some of you veterans. Things to take part in in Knoxville and at Neyland. Things going on on gameday, places to eat, park. Any info the better. Cannot wait!

It will be my first game as well, and I share your enthusiasm!

Y'all can finally say you're true fans! Because everyone knows you aren't a true fan if you don't go to every game and stay until the end.

Speaking of which, I always love hearing the "Tennessee Waltz" at the end. Make sure you throw your arm around the people next to you and sway to the Pride's soothing rendition.

If you don't want to deal with traffic you can catch a bus from Farragut High School(I think they're others too?) and it's only like $16 for a round trip. When I don't feel like dealing with traffic, I do that. They start running like 3 hours before kickoff and drop you off right in front of Neyland.

At least take a look at the Volunteer Navy on the river. Definitely don't miss the Vol Walk.

You're in for the time of your life, regardless of the outcome. The tailgating and pregame atmosphere is absolutely electric and intoxicating. When you arrive outside the stadium, the sheer number of people and the sea of orange will definitely get you pumped up...it may actually be a little intimidating for a first-timer. But, walking through the gate for the first time will probably be your most memorable moment. When you come out into the massive stadium with everyone cheering in unison, you might just shed a man-tear or two. Then you just buckle up for the ride and enjoy the show.

Go to the bookstore in the Univ Center & get anything & everything orange! Try to stroll down Cumberland Ave (the strip), Volunteer Village, the Vol Walk (2 1/2 hrs or so before K/O, & the band (1:40 before K/O) & be in your seat at least :30 before kickoff to see the pregame show & soak up the atmosphere. GO VOLS!

For yalls first game, I believe yall picked the best game on the schedule this year for yall to attend. I say that because this game will be our best shot at getting a home win against an SEC opponent. You will also get to experience the atmosphere of Neyland Stadium at its best due to playing a SEC team, not to mention instate rival. Get there extremely early so you can take everything in and experience all that gameday at Neyland has to offer. The first game I went to was at age 16 in 2006. Made the trip to Knoxville from Dekalb County which is a good two hour drive. Due to a friend that went with me, we was late and did not get to experience the Vol Walk or anything else. That loss to FL was heartbreaking, but I would not trade the experience for anything...just wish we would of got there early enough to see everything pregame. We made sure to get there extremely early for the Bama game that same season.

Just a word of caution if you go to the "bookstore" do not expect to find many " books" :)

Coming from Northern Virginia, this will be a little out of your way. I would get off I40 at the Civic Auditorium and park in their parking lot. If you go to the Farragut School. you will pass the UT Campus and then have to fight a lot more traffic if you wish to leave for home after the game. If you plan to stay in Knoxville overnight, staying in West Knoxville will not be a problem.

I didn't think about which part of VA he was coming from, lol. I live in Lee County so I go down through Lafolette/Clinton and such.

There are a whole lot of "books" downstairs at the "bookstore". Enough for a university of 25,000.
Yea I knew that . It is a standing joke between my wife and me that when we go to the " bookstore" we never come out with any books. :birgits_giggle:

If staying in pigeon forge or Gatlinburg there is a bus which brings you to the game. ( dont think it gets there in time for vol walk though :banghead2: )

MUST SEE:
Vol walk
Band marching to stadium

It's an atomosphere you will never forget.
congratulations on your first game.

Look for me and I will give you a high five to congratulate you in person. ( I will be the one in orange )

Safe travels and GO VOLS !!!
