First gay soldier killed in war since the repeal of don't ask/don't tell?

Sounds like you come from good home. I was just wondering, thanks.

Better than some, I guess. My dad tried to convince my brother not to join the marines, but you could tell he sort of wanted to prove something. Now he's out being Billy Bad-ass from Alaska, and his squad's designated marksman and mine-finder (or something like that). Hopefully he makes it back in one piece. Even though I was and am not pro-withdrawal, I see it a little differently now that the same blood that it is in my veins is over there. I'm just tired of knowing people younger than me that know war.

If I remember correctly, you were against the change in policy..........if I am wrong, I certainly apologize.

I think it's all political bs. There have been gays in the military going back to
the revolutionary war. I don't really care either way. If soldiers want to be open about their sexuality to feel equal, then so be it. It won't make being gay in the military any easier.

They still did when I got out (last fall). They had also managed during my time to get rid of "Sergeant's Time"; now, all training time is supposed to be dictated down from the PL (most of whom need Sergeant's Time more than the Joes).

Getting rid of Sergeants time must have been a unit thing. We still do it.

It's no more a waste of time than teaching racists to knock it off and act like they have some sense in the military. That worked out great.
People giving you a hard time because you openly admit to giving other men happy endings in no where near the same as being born black. What next, are we going to have to protect chubby chasers and beer goggle guys from being ridiculed? If you dont want to be ridiculed over who you sleep with, just keep that information where it belongs... in the bedroom. Gays are to only demographic that feel the need to have special accomodations or privileges just based on who they choose to hop in the sack with. And then they turn around and ride on the coatails of the black civil rights movement.

being signal (with opsec in mind) we have a lot of sensitive items. Stuff always comes up missing. Now it also always turns out to just be in another drawer or downrange and not signed for, but it generally takes 6-7 hours for that to be realized. So during our lockdowns, our NCOs take care of all our EO training and the like. Nothing like spending your Friday night learning about equal rights while also getting yelled at because something is "missing".

Or it was turned in so it could be taking off the books, but there's no 2062 to back it up, good times.

In every unit I was in there was a certain badge of honor attached to that.

I don't think it is as different as you do, I guess ras. If people could hide their race, racism would be okay? I say no

Could be that gays are one of the most hated groups of people in the United States... just sayin'.

NCO's should never allow officer's to dictate training, unless it's been handed down from higher. Even then the planning and how the training is conducted, should run through the NCO's.

Individual and squad level training should come from the NCO level and be run as such. Above that, it should essentially bs dictated from the 3 shop.

Thorough individual training has been mostly non-existent over the past three or four years. Many light infantry units will be conducting their first EIB cycles, since the surge, this year, due to finally having breathing room on the patch charts.

Fact is, that the surge really screwed up training cycles. Units getting back from deployments were looking at ten month dwell times, which included the rotations in the box (and the logistics involved in moving the unit their and back). Soldiers are held in their units for 60-90 days post deployment, then the unit replaces around 60% of its manpower. Trains for two to two and a half months prior to NTC or JRTC. Leave and load out for deployment.

The S3 gets my range and ammo and keeps my jump log and that's about it. The team runs itself. Battalion keeps track of our training. They don't dictate what training to conduct.

You guys don't have recruiter quota fillers to keep track of either :)

I gotta admit I look at gay guys and guys who date fat chicks kinda the same. I just kinda go "um ok" and don't quite get it. I would still morn the death of a gay soldier the same way I would the death of a soldier who liked fat chicks. Still wouldn't get it though. Then again, I was never a big fan of watching Jello wiggle like the other school kids seemed to be. Just found all that wiggle wobble odd.

Any person that gives his life for his country, gay or straight, is a hero in my book.

Where in this thread has anybody disagreed with this? Most of the conflict comes from gays wanting special recognition or priviliges just because they choose to sleep with people of the same sex. Why is that even something I need to know about? Just keep your mouth shut and nobody would care. Gays want it both ways (no pun intended). On the one hand they want to be recognized for what they do in their bedrooms, but on the other hand feel that what they do on their own time or in the privacy of their homes is their business.

They wanted to end DADT. I see no problem with that, since DADT did not cover them if they were caught in a homosexual act, whether on post or off.

I know quite a few gays and I don't think a single one of them want special recognition. They want acceptance. I talk to my brother quite a lot about this subject, and, as a Marine, he says there is still quite a bit of anti-gay sentiment among servicemen.

My comment was directed toward the soldier who died. It wasn't about anything that's been said in this thread.

After reading the article, and ignoring the comments, I'm proud to say I cried for our fallen brother and stand by his choice to serve....

Godspeed!
