Welp - it finally happened. Been a licensed driver for 40 years and I got my first ticket today - 40 in a 25 zone.

I'm guilty but not happy about it.

So what's the best course of action - officer said I could go to court to see if I could get driving school. Worth it?

Any chance going to court gets me off the hook completely? Are there typically additional court costs I have to pay beyond the ticket. Officer was coming towards me so I'm not sure if it was a radar read or an estimate.

Blame it on the brand new car, and the speed was deceptive. Maybe he will be impressed with the Macan.

Well I don’t know about Alabama laws, but usually you attend driving school just so the points won’t be placed on your record. You still have to pay the fine however. Since it’s your first ticket you could seek mitigation, which could reduce the fine. However, if I was in your shoes I would just pay it and call it a day.

I'm not opposed to paying it - just wondering if it was smarter to do something else to avoid an insurance hit.

Not sure if my insurance will change or not.

Mine didn't effect my insurance with it just being one ticket.

Depends. If you go to driving school it comes off your record and you dont have to pay the ticket, however you do have to pay court costs and the cost of the class.

Did driving school a long time ago and it didn't go on my insurance. Last one I got was dismissed with court costs only since I had a good record

Go to court and ask for driving school. If I remember correctly, you will pay the cost of driving school and the judge will waive the cost of the ticket..... The driving school does cost more though lol. You will definitely notice a change in your insurance.

I got a ticket in Limestone County, AL earlier this year..... 89 in a 70. Just paid it and went on..... no practical way for me to have done otherwise.

So Bham..... that's an amazing run. Have you just been lucky or do you drive like an old lady?

Lucky and strategic. On the Interstate I usually do 8 over or so. Most of my over the limit driving is on twisty roads and in the twisties. This was one I frequent and the cop was coming the opposite direction. Didn't think anything of it and a minute later she came up behind me with the flashing blue.

It was only a matter of time.

I’ve gotten 3 speeding tickets, all while in college. Just paid all of them and never heard anything else about it or saw my insurance go up.

for the next time, ask to see the radar gun, so you can confirm the speed

for now pay it and move on

See if you can find a lawyer for $225 or less to make it go away or at least turn into non moving violation. No points, no driving class and not too much more than driving class. Always keep off record of you can else just pay and move on. Just try to avoid more tickets in the near future.
