Is there any reason to believe the Oline will be better next year? Everyone is rightfully saying they better hit the portal hard to infuse the talent . . . But how likely is that? I think reality is likely more toward another year of a bad Oline . . . And maybe we trim the corner in 2025.
This is not being expressed enough. This staff brought in 10 guys last year. And only 1 is being talked about. I understand that OL is a developmental position, out of those 10 guys you brought in only 1 is maybe read to play?

true.

Heupel and Hazle have both made statements that they believe Nico could play and they have confidence in him to do so. But both said this about Joe. Heupel yesterday and Hazle today. Heupel is not close to making a change and shouldn't unless the OL stabilizes.

the reality is that it is about Joe because as Heupel indicated yesterday and Halzle made it clear today they believe Joe is playing better than those in the outside believe
How many, if any, scholarships are going to be down in the next recruiting round as a result of the Pruitt saga? Thanks.

when you are depending on a 6th year guy and a 5th year guy to play in the SEC (who have played very little to date) you do NOT have the quality depth required to have effective play in this conference. Lane and Davis deserve kudos for staying with the program all these years but neither should be playing SEC football. Just shows where we are with OL on the roster.

2024 alert. OL is going to be much worse with losses.
Pruitt. The gift that keeps on giving SMDH.

So the OL is terrible but it’s about Joe. That makes total sense. What were they supposed to say? Throw Joe under the bus? Publicly trash the players like Pruitt did? Give me a break. Joe needs to play better. So do the OL and especially the WRs.

Our O-LINE is too soft, unprepared, and has too many penalties. How can this be fixed? Or are we doomed?
Maize and Nancy along with Spragens are the three best players. Maze is arguably the most important as the center. So essentially 40% including two of the best guys were out. That’s really significant but the silver lining is they will both re-join in the coming weeks. Probably both will be back out there this weekend.

I’ll say this also… Great quarterback, play makes the office of line look better. And the best thing you could possibly do for a suspect offense of line is put an athletic quarterback back there. When defensive players can pin their ears back and come at the quarterback for speed… It can almost work to their detriment when you have an athletic quarterback. Many of Joe Burrow‘s best plays, came on protection breakdowns, where he was almost immediately having to evade pressure. Same can be true for Bryce Young, and Baker Mayfield, etc..

Milton wall he is reasonably fast on a straight line, isn’t quick and doesn’t make guys miss very often. This is just another reason I feel like Nico should be getting some time on the field.

Nope. Excuses however….
It’s not excuses. It’s fact. 2 OL recruited in 2021? Recruiting restrictions because if Pruitts incompetence? Horrible OL recruiting while he was here? Yeah none of that matters. I remember when Dobbs was here. What were we saying? His OL sucked. How bad Mahoney was. But that’s not the same right? Was that excuses or fact?

You are just another in a long line of irrational Vol fans.

Mays, Spraggins, Wright, Carvin ….all the “good” OLinemen, Heupel made his money on.

But, alrighty then. A bunch of bums. Lol

This ^ That's a big reason why I'm as upset with this FL loss as I am. We're loaded with veteran players across the board. We should not be getting physically dominated in this fashion by a FL team that is reloading.

I am still a bit bothered by Mays not playing Saturday. Heupel seemed quite certain that Coop would play against Florida. Really was disappointed when he didn’t step out for that opening drive
coach speak... he wasn't going to play and they knew it but wasn't letting that out

Got to find a solution at C if Mays can't get back soon. Bless his heart... Ollie ain't it. Neither is Davis.

Love Spraggins... always have. But if he can't stop jumping then he needs to sit. He's also getting beat more than he should.

Also, they're probably playing hesitant afraid of making a mistake. At some point, you just have to play. If you make a mistake then cover it up with pure aggression. If you fill the wrong hole then fill it well. If you block the wrong guy then grind him into a pulp.
Plus, we're in spread so much, a lot of our assignments seem fairly easy to find and identify. We are mostly schemed up to be 5 on 5 or 6 on 6 in the box. Just getting whipped in our assignments.

We should have been and still be working the portal for lineman. It takes too long to grow them. Unless you get a rare Trey Smith. This problem will haunt us again next year.
Other teams develop them, a 4 star O-lineman should at least be able to contribute by year 2 and start at least by year 3. We have recruited good enough there the last 2 years we should be able to develop a few by next year. I hope our strength and conditioning coach is getting the most out of them. That is one of the most important things. With the resources we have we should never get pushed around. GBO

Might want to go back and proofread this one. Couple of minor spelling errors there.
