UK vs UL hasnt been a great rivalry b/c they both havent been on the same level as a Duke/UNC every year. Those teams are consistently top 25 and ranked high. UL/UK is often very competitive, but they arent always ranked high. Not to mention the whole conference thing.

If you're from Kentucky, you're a fan of Kentucky or Louisville. You might attend WKU or some other tiny school, but you're a fan of one of those two programs from birth.

North Carolina has schools other than Duke and UNC, some of which even play basketball pretty competitively. Ever heard of NC State or Wake Forest? Couple that with the fact that North Carolina actually has professional sports and it isn't even a discussion. Kentucky vs. Louisville is the Alabama vs. Auburn of college basketball.

I think some of you are confused as to what a rivalry really is. Rankings do not make a rivalry, it only highlights it. Duke had instances where they didn't even fill the student section this year. UNC had trouble selling out games back in the early/mid 2000's before ole' Roy came in. On the other hand, you cannot attend a UK louisville game for any less than 200.00 a seat in the upper arena. Whether they are ranked 5th or 305th, the game is still the same. Senior citizens fist fight at dialysis for heavens sake.

Fan hatred, school hatred, state pride and bragging rights considered, UK/UL eclipses Duke/Carolina. I don't care how many people say otherwise.

Part of the rivalry is the rankings for Duke vs UNC. They are in the same conf. and play 2 times a year so each one is a familar foe and it always is a tight race between these two in the acc. UK/ UL play once a year for a whole year of bragging rights.

Negative to the former

Saturday is going to be an incredibly tense day regardless of who wins. I wholly expect a few fights and arrests that night. I'm excited haha. Last Sunday got insane. Finals on the line and playing louisville makes Sunday seem like and exhibition game.

If Louisville wins, they will be flipping cars downtown. It will be insane. Thank God I live in Oldham County...

You're making it sound as if UNC-duke doesn't sell out. Cheapest tickets at Cameron indoors for that game this year were around 2grand.

Also, you saying they didn't fill the student section for games this year is false. They didn't fill it with students, they sold remaining allotment to the "general" public which were snatched up immediately. Every game this year at Cameron was a complete sell out.

The reason I quoted "general" public is because it isn't really the general public that got these tix. What happened was games that students didn't buy their whole allotment they would sell the remaining tickets. Sales would start at season ticket holders to all other sports(football, lacrosse, women's basketball etc etc) IF any tickets remained then they would be sold to general public. However, not one time did the tickets even make it an hour before selling out to the other sports season ticket holders.

So yes, the student section wasn full of students , but it was at capacity for every game this year. And that didn't happen for UNC-Duke, that game the students did fill the student section. And as I said, cheapest tickets for UNC-duke at Cameron were going for around 2grand a pop this year.

You picked one sentence out of my whole post and harped on it, but the overall point still stands.

I was just clarifying. Someone said that earlier this year talking about how duke was having trouble filling Cameron and that simply isn't true. They just aren't selling out stden allotment every game, but they wind up selling out those games.

And I was throwing the price or ticket out there because that's insane IMO. You mentione $200 for a UK- Louisville tickets, I was pointing out 2 grand for the cheapest unc-duke ticket. That's insane.

You mentioned that it was at Cameron indoor, which seats 9,000, Rupp seats 24,000. If UK/UL were played in a high school gymnasium like that, it would be more than 2000 bucks. It would require their singlewide and firstborn.

UNC obviously has a comparably sized arena to that of Kentucky and Louisville, but Cameron is tiny. Obviously the rivalry between Duke and UNC is huge, but this clearly contributes to the ticket prices.

Also, this may be a little bit of a reach here, but many Duke and UNC fans/alumni are more affluent than Kentucky and Louisville fans and alumni. If Yale and Harvard were on top of the football world like Duke and UNC are for basketball, I couldn't begin to imagine what those seats would cost, even in the "spacious" Yale Bowl.

They've been notorious over the years for not having a full house except for bigger games. You just rarely notice due to the fact you hardly ever see the top of the gym. Most of their alumni don't stick around and attend games after graduating. They may sell out - but don't confuse that for a full house.

Everyone on this board says that because they hate Kentucky, and therefore will not give. It is everything that UNC/Duke is, other than slobbering idiots on ESPN who are alumni.

So we are blinded on here because we "hate" Kentucky....yet you being a UK fan doesn't make your opinion biased ohhhh the hypocrisy....

UNC/Duke is bigger because they are in the same conference, have met many more times, and are consistently always in the top. UK/Louisville only started playing each other consistently since the early 80s.

Which would still only value at about $500.

Now if you throw in their bass boats well now you may have point.
