Currently Rivals shows us with 12 4-star commits and no 5-stars at this point. I personally think that the star system of ranking is of secondary importance to how our staff evaluates the talent. However, CLK has stated one of our program goals as a No. 1 recruiting class, which generates buzz, which in turn helps recruiting. With less than 3 months to NSD, does anyone have any thoughts on 5-star players on our board who are likely/probable to end up wearing orange next season?

luc lost his fifth star but he's as big of a recruit as there is in this class based off of his youtube hype alone.

Of the Rivals list, probably only Elam and Powell are the only ones. Both of them are up in the air at this point. Anything can change though, look at the JJ situation last year.

Luc lost his 5th star on Rivals the week after his official visit to UT, interesting huh?

Dixon is a 5 star on a lot of boards as well

I wouldn't be surprised if Markeith Ambles, Brandon Willis, or Corey Miller earned a fifth star

If Luc were to sigh with bammer, he would be a 5 again. Automatic. This thread has a mis-leading title. KNS could use this guy.

It does seem kind of outta whack that UT isn't really in on too many 5 stars this year. That will also really hurt us in the recruiting rankings fwiw. It's hard to finish in the top ten with no 5 stars. It looks like our only real hope is to pull a magic switch with Elam or land one of the top 3 RBs.

we aren't even in it for powell and it sounds like we are pretty much out of it for Elam...

I don't think we land a 5* this year, unless a current commit (Miller or Ambles) gets a 5th star....

the only position I could really see us pulling a shocker with a 5* is at RB...

You think we have a shot at Lattimore?

Who cares? I trust our staff recruiting the needs for this team. Fulmer thrived on 5 Star recruits and managed to get beat by teams with a bunch of 3 and 4 stars. If the people who are doing the ratings knew anything about football talent then they would be called coaches instead of putting their best guess on the internet for fools like us to see.

It all depends on who's site you look at.

MaxPreps has Luc as the 88th best prospect in the nation, while other have him in the top 10.

Scouts Inc has J. Smith rated much lower than MaxPreps.

So it really just varies.

UT has no shot at Powell in my opinion,Elam seems to be a Gator.

UT will have to get a number of players to reach number one but it looks more like a top 5 class, which isn't to shabby.

To get the number 1 class, UT would have to land the following.

Jeff Luc, Christian Jones, Chaz Green, John Fulton, Corey Lemonier, and probably 2 of these 3, Wright, Riley, Dixon.

Guys like James Stone, Damien Robinson, Kenny Shaw and George Uko wouldn't hurt either.

UT would probably need a few current commits to reach the 5 star level as well.

I care because apparently CLK cares about pulling in a number 1 ranked recruiting class, and I don't see how you do that without snagging a couple of 5-star recruits. I doubt we will see No. 1 this year, but top 5 is still very attainable. You're kidding yourself if you think our staff doesn't attach importance to the rank of our recruiting class, if only as a marketing tool for future recruiting efforts.

No, I would be surprised if we sign a RB in this class, next years class looks much better for RB than this years and with the young and talented group we currently have UT would be hard pressed to sign a guy like Marcus.

I think all signs point to South Carolina from what I have heard.

as of right now, absolutely zero chance...

but you never know. I would think we have a better at Seastrunk than Lattimore, but both are pipe dreams.

I could see Miller or Ambles getting a 5th star with great practices/performances in their AA games...don't see Willis getting a 5th star though

The depth at RB at USCe looks just like UT. I think that he will go there just because he is a fan.

It is not impossible that UT ended with Luc, Christian Jones, Chaz Green, Corey Lemonier, Demetrius Wright, Ahmad Dixon, George Uko, Lattimore, etc. Corey Cooper is also in play. G Smith could be a DT for us.

This staff is in it to win it and they will surprise everyone, even though we all follow closely.

By the way, you could be number 1 without a single 5 star if you signed 18 4 stars. It would be more than anyone has ever signed, but it could certainly happen.

Scouts Inc only has 11 players rated as a 5 star.

Rivals has 21 players rated as a 5 star.

So it's not as if there is a slew of them running around.

Plus there is always guys rated a 5 star who ends up doing nothing and a guys rated a 3 star who ends up a first round pick.

Recruiting services can be a joke, say a guy is listed as a 3 star, and let's say that he is currently holding offers from 5 schools and of them, his "best" offer is from Kentucky. Then all of a sudden he gets an offer from Miami and Georgia, his rating will be a 4 star before you know it.

It's very subjective.

Check out the class that Texas currently has.

If Texas holds on to the commits that they currently have and they sign Jackson Jeffcoat, Jordan Hicks and Darius White, they have the number one class hands down.

They won't get Hicks or White. Maybe Jeffcoat but he is not a lock by any means. Texas could end up letting the top 3 players in the state (Seastrunk, Jeffcoat, White) all leave the state...

I think that Hicks goes to Florida/Ohio State and White goes to Oklahoma.

Of course if Texas wins the N.T. all this could change, especially with Oklahoma going 7-5.

Would not be surprised if Jeffcoat plays with his Dad at Houston.

Bible was a good get though, Texas native, better than Lache, IMO.

Luc lost his 5 star after a Friday night game with a huge rival (who was a great team by the way) and played very poorly. Bill King on Rivals Radio on Sirus had Newberg on there and Jamie said that they felt that to have a 5 star you should play great no matter who you are playing. Because of that game and one other sub par performance they dropped his 5th star...by no means does this mean he is not a great player....just had a couple of "ok" games. I still want him and I know we will sign him!!

Go Vols!!
