New scheme. OLBS ARE DEs.
I know what 3-4 is lol... guess we'll see how many beefcakes roll in... typically you have a monster NT that can eat blocks and Phillips-sized guys that can at least QB spy for DE in a 3-4... your OLBs need to be able to zone cover and man to man a TE
I get getting bigger up front stops the run better but you can't have a 300 lb DT QB spying... he'll get got haha
It'll be curious to see how this class shapes out with all the holes we have with the new scheme...
Youre not gonna spy the QB with a 3-4 DE/DT.
One of the ILBs would most likely be tasked with that assignment.
It all depends on what coverage you are playing behind it.If they can't be tasked with that, you're going to lose an entire package of OLB/ILB zone-blitz masks...
Optimally they are able to and the only guy on any given snap in the front seven you know for a fact is rushing the passer is the NT
Steelers used to pull the DE's back all the time in QB spy / flat zones

I also think we're recruiting him as a olb.
According to his own comments (per 247 article), Bama is recruiting him as a olb, Tennessee as a DE and Miami said he could do whatever he wanted.
Edit: In addition to taking in each atmosphere, the on-field role could vary for the 6-foot-4, 205-pounder, though seeing the field in any capacity takes priority. "alabama says standing up, coming off the edge, tennessee, defensive end, they want to put weight on me," he said. "and miami says i can do whatever i want to do. "however i can get on the field, i'll do it."
