If I'm not mistaken, Hardy plays with his hand in the dirt on the DL. Joseph is more of a stand up edge. Think of Darrell Taylor and Aubrey Solomon

In a 3-4 a weakside defensive end is more like a linebacker hybrid. Strogside will almost exclusively have hand in dirt, like a defensive tackle hybrid. Huge difference.

It’s the weak vs strong side DE that they put on rankings. In a 3-4 system, SDEs play inside the tackles, WDEs typically convert to OLB “designated pass rusher (DPR)” role.
