Darrin Kirkland Jr had the same ability, Just couldn't stay healthy. Finished his Freshman season with similar stats too.
However, he was not as physical as Henry To'oto'o, or as fiery!

I don't remember Kirkland flashing the way To'o To'o has. He was good but not the same level.

I thought Kirkland did. I think To’oto’o will have a much more productive career but Kirkland looked legit his freshman year from my memory. JMO

Kirkland looked good for an SEC freshman. To'oto'o looked like a future all Pro in the making. He showed ELITE generational type talent potential. Everything about his game is top end. His frame is built to be a LB, has good speed, great power, great tackling technique, great football instincts, advanced play diagnosis, a high motor, and sheds blocks well.

He also seems very coachable with high character and natural leadership ability. The sky is the limit for this kid and he has one very important thing going for him that Kirkland didn't. Elite coaching from the best in the business.

Onee area needing improvement is in pass coverage but he got better as the season progressed. He also showed crazy toughness playing through a dislocated kneecap. I really don't see injuries derailing this kids career like they did Kirkland's....seems like the type who could suffer a serious injury and return to form. I'm praying that's not necessary.

It's very early but I really think this guy will end up on UTs Mt. Rushmore and possibly the NFL's. Never got that from Kirkland.

In b4 "D4H type analysis".

They are really close. DkJr. Was my guy guy so... it’s hard but kirklands freshman year man was fantastic. Henry T prob made more plays tho. Both monsters can’t wait for the future of our defense

HT is much more natural and instinctive. Kirkland may have been the better athlete but not the better lb.

I do.
Not to mention he had sacks, ints, and the same amount of tackles. And he got to the ball quick.

But in the box, Henry T was more physical and more assertive as a leader as a true freshman.

He's not a better athlete than Henry T.
To'oto'o played RB for De LaSalle.

Instincts i would give to Kirkland as a freshman barely. Not by much at all.

Bottom line.

Henty To'oto'o is better.

Do you feel like the different scheme had an impact on your opinion?

Good question.

Henry T would have been productive in ANY defense.
Kirkland even as a freshman and healthy wasn't exactly a fill the hole backer. In the 3-4 you have to play with better leverage and have much more discipline in reading your keys. He would have struggled in the 3-4 even in freshman form, because Olineman would have dominated him. Playing with good leverage wasn't his best attribute.

I remember 6'4 230 lbs AJ Branisel dominating Kirkland in a drill.

Kirkland is a good kid and obviously intelligent, but absolutely one of the most overrated players on this board. Never seen a MLB get washed out of so many plays and pad his stats with assisted arm tackles.

11 is in an entirely different league than 34. I think the love for Kirkland stemmed from flipping him late and his recruiting rankings.

Healthy Freshman Kirkland was pretty good. Who knows how good he could have been without the injuries. Henry T is absolutely ELITE though. Like he could potentially have an AL Wilson type impact on the program, and as previously stated, has better coaching than Kirkland as well.
After this winters work outs HT will rip the next level a new one!

I'm not sure I can pump the brakes on this young man. I think he may be the real deal....just like Henry T.

I'm getting really excited about the future of Tn Football. Maybe not next year (losing a lot of production on offense and defense)...but maybe. Two years from now? I'm probably betting the house...and i have a lot of house.

Seriously. We have coaches that find talent, then coach that talent up. I like where we are going.

I still can't believe Pruitt & company was able to get Joseph out of Lakeland. Best recruiting job this year IMO. A true steal
Didn’t hurt that Mullen did an in home THEN discovered that he wasn’t a take...must’ve been one hell of a drawn up combine in the Joseph living room! 😳
