FL Game Plan(s)

Does that young man have ability beyond his size? If so, why aren't the conditioning and nutrition staff helping him cut his weight?

My understanding is that there is an issue preventing him from losing weight like most humans. I’m guessing hypothyroidism or something like that. That hasn’t been made public, probably because of hipaa laws, but it goes beyond him eating too much and not trying, so I’ve heard.

Beyond his size, he’s actually one of the strongest players on the team, his bench press, squat and all that is off the charts. But he’s too big to be anything other than a short yardage run stuffer at his current size.

Realize that FL D wants to stack the box. So start off up the middle runs to force them to do exactly what they want to do and stack the box, then punish them for committing to the box with screen passes out leveraging those wide splits which are basically an extension of the run game. The D starts to cheat up that's when Joe unloads that cannon and starts hitting them over the top until they back up the secondary then start over forcing them to stack the box.

On defense, stop the run and make QB beat us over the top while he is running for his life every time he drops back. Corner backs for sake of all that is holy TURN YOUR HEAD to "play the ball" on coverage!

Need to be aggressive in Q1. Make this a 3 score game and take "the swamp" out of the equation. FL is not built to catchup if they get behind. They have to make this a slug fest and keep the score tight which will feed "the swamp." They want this to be decided in the last 2 min.

That stinks. I hope he can get a handle on it and make the most of his God-given talent (except for UT games where I hope he sucks bigly).

and the receivers but stick-um on their gloves
Yeah, I could be wrong but I believe the receivers sense Joe's anxiety and it effects their confidence in him and themselves. If he's calm I think it all clicks better. Cooper will help that alot.

I know that sounds obvious. It is, but that just looked like it was a problem Saturday. Shouldn't be, but I shouldn't be worried about beating this crap Florida team either. Lol. Is what it is.

They will pull out all of the stops, this is a must win for naiper. We need to run the ball early and often then open up some play action deep shots. On defense we must pressure their qb, he looks pretty average so far but nothing gets a Florida qb on the right track like playing us, esp at home. Milton cannot hold the ball like he has the first two games, there were several times in both games he should of tucked it and ran and he kept holding it and got sacked or threw an incompletion. He needs to be a true dual threat to keep UF off balance and mix that in with our 3 headed monster to RB I like our chances.

I would think if it is short enough, Napier will go for it on 4th down multiple times on their own side of the 50. He will want to gamble playing keep away from our offense. We have been struggling, but the potential is deadly if we can put it together. My guess is he'll go for it on 4th down 5 times this game. The D better be ready!! Stops ignites a team, if they get 4/5, it deflates a team. This is crucial!!
The difference is that it’s Mertz and not Anthony Richardson taking snaps to bail their ass out .

Florida Offense: Establish the run and attack Hadden in the passing game.

I sure hope so. Hadden, in spite of drawing 2 penalties, has 1 INT, 5 PBUs, and, in 16 targets this year, he has only given up 5 receptions (31%) for 16 total yards. This gives QBs a 14.6 NFL Passer Rating against him.

I hope they throw at him every single time.

Florida will try to test our secondary I'm sure. From watching the Utah game their QB can scramble so we'll need to make sure to contain. We will need to get the ball down the field at some point but hopefully we're able to run the ball effectively and play good defense to eke out a win.

Utah didn't respect Mertz's ability to throw deep at all. It got to the point that after about 15 yards the Utah DBs pretty much just let FLA's receivers go.

UF will try and take the run away. Everyone we face will try and put it on Milton to win. He's unfortunately the weak link. UF will try to take the air out of the ball on offense, and they'll go for it on fourth just about every time.
Funny that’s literally the opposite approach of what the 1st two teams did. Which is why Milton didn’t throw but about 3 ball further than 20 yards down the field. If they stack the box he will eat them alive.

He's got to take off on those deals. He had two or three he could have ran for 20 yards Saturday.. Joe has to take those he's not going Joe Montana his way to wins. He's a little erractic and we're just going to have to deal with it. I worry about that in a place like the swamp.

i just see florida as so limited offensively. without richardson having one of the best games of his career last year, they wouldnt have been in it at all

how do you stack the box with 4 receivers lined up stacked, near the sideline? milton will torch them if they try this - can't do it against our o.
This is correct. Heupel won't let them stack the box all the time and that's part of the normal gameplan.

Success running --> they try to stack the box
Spread the receivers --> they come out of it
And do this very quickly.

What I saw with APSU was the lack of tempo allowed the D to make changes quickly. The beauty of what Heupel did last year was vary the look so quickly that the D made mistakes, lots of mistakes.

So far, we've not used tempo to our advantage really this year. I look for that to change Saturday and with good results.

Florida 400+ lb defensive lineman is a non-factor really. He is slow and he gets blown off the line. Utah OL made him look terrible. I guess there is a chance he has a breakout game against UT though. Chalk that up as a “coincidence.” He has not impressed me in the slightest so far.
Our style of play will have him sucking wind pretty quick if we are in a good groove. GBO

As has been mentioned Ad Nauseum for years and forgotten this year.. We never open up the full playbook till SEC play starts. We didn't even try going deep against AP because there was no need to. IF you pay attention both the offensive and defensive gameplans were very basic against both opponents as they are every year. Saturday we see the full playbook unleashed.

He’s a stud on short yardage and goal line situations. He’s impossible to move when he doesn’t want to be moved. But you’re right otherwise, he has hardly any lateral mobility and can’t rush the passer at all. He’s also about the 4th or 5th interior D-lineman that Florida will use, he’s not a starter.
Cant wait til Napier puts him in the game, Heupel won't let him off the field.
