'19 FL OL Chris Akporoghene (Tennessee signee)

At 6-foot-4, 290 pounds, he has the right size for an SEC lineman and could probably still put on more weight. Even with his size, he has really good body control. He fires off the ball hard and manages to drive opponents well. His footwork isn’t terrible, but it’s also not great. It’s definitely one of the areas he needs to improve the most. But he is a steady pass blocker, and his strength is blocking in the run game. His biggest problem is his pad level. He consistently plays football way too high up, which gives the defenders an advantage in the battle for leverage. He is, however, a solid prospect with plenty more growing to do.

I think he projects as an OG... learn the flat step crossover and run... contact on third step, fire arms keep the back arm as a grabber and hold the he!! on... and eyes on the End...

“Similarly, Tennessee has surged to the forefront for 4-star offensive lineman Chris Akporoghene. The former King’s Academy prospect didn’t even have the Vols on his radar 10 days ago, but since earning an offer after a dominating camp performance, Akporoghene has been in constant contact with both Pruitt and Will Friend. He was also back on campus this week before he take an OV out to Oregon.

I don't think Weinke has much impact on this. Kid didn't start out at IMG. I know the family who had him in Knoxville when he lived here. He didn't like Butch at all. He visited for the Florida game in 2016 and loved the facilities and the atmosphere, but he never liked the staff. Asked his American family what changed, and they said he really likes Pruitt.

Good Observation I would add:
Learn the Tennessee Flat Box, aim small miss small, hold your turkey twaddler, wrinkle your stinkle and ducks fly together!

Does anyone who has seen all of the tapes have an opinion on this guy and Mcbride versus the guy from VA (Pritchard)? I thought Pritchard looked like a prototypical Guard, but Im definitely not an expert.

I'm just curious if anybody thinks the ncaa will come to investigate of he commits to Tennessee? Similar to the Michael oher business of a family grooming a prospect? I'm not saying they are, but the way he puts them as pushing for Tennessee reads a little weird to some if we swoop in and land him. Am I over thinking or could there be a perception issue here?

Ummmm? You are over thinking it. He wasn't even considering us until he met Pruitt.

On the VQ podcast they said that Akporoghene really impressed the coaches when he camped and that he has a a lot potential with his combination of size and athleticism. He is still very raw but has shown a lot of improvement since he started focusing solely on OL. There seems to be a very strong mutual interest, and he could be a guy who pulls the trigger in July.

Why would they investigate? His family lives in Knoxville

Nothing to investigate. The family isn't doing anything wrong. He's always liked the school and the facilities-- he just had to build a relationship with the new coaches. He didn't connect with Butch. He connects with Pruitt and has built a good relationship with Weinke and Friend.

Listening to VQ podcast...Simonton making it sound like this kid went from a little upset he didn't have a UT offer to now he's loving the Vols, said he's been on campus 2-3x this week and likely makes a decision in July. He said the staff was VERY impressed with his workout at camp, they want him. It sounds like this kid is a Vol lock and soon.

He had a dominant camp performance at UT per the VQ podcast. They said athletically he's on another level. He's clearly become their #1 target at Guard.
