'19 FL OL Chris Akporoghene (Tennessee signee)

Second get from IMG if I’m not mistaken.

And here’s to getting somebody out of our own backyard! This is what other schools will be complaining about.

Does this mean McBride won’t be a part of the class?

McBride is still a want. They might shave off a WR spot if he wants to commit. Pruitt did not like the OL room when he first got here at all. He offered every JUCO lineman on the planet last cycle. Now they need some talented youngsters.

AKPOROGHENE’S SCOUTING REPORT

“He’s strong and he’s driven. He’s one of those young men who is going to be out there at 6 or 7 a.m. just working on pass sets. Just working on footwork. Watching video and working those same skills over and over.

"Tennessee is getting an unbelievably dedicated young man. (Football) isn’t just something that he does. This is what he wants to be. He’s committed to making this work for him. He’s a young man who’s only play 17 or 18 football games his entire life. His ceiling is so high compared to where he was and where he’s been. The fact he’s getting the competition, especially this year at IMG vs. some of the cats he gets to go against down there, he’s going to walk into Tennessee in January ready to compete.”

— Matt Lowe, former TKA head coach

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TENNESSEE?

Jeremy Pruitt’s desire to add quality bodies — big bodies — to the offensive line room from the 2019 class has been a massive success thus far. In-state lineman Jackson Lampley was the first commit on board, with 5-star offensive tackle and class cornerstone Wanya Morris joining the fold in May.

The Vols didn’t push for Akporoghene until an impressive camp performance last month, but both Pruitt and offensive line coach Will Friend worked overtime to make sure the former Knoxville native stayed at home.

With three lineman now committed, the Vols likely only have room for one more lineman in the 2019 class, and that spot is earmarked for 5-star tackle Darnell Wright. The West Virginia native visited Tennessee earlier this spring and the Vols are on the shortlist of his favorites along with Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson.

Tennessee will continue to recruit several other offensive lineman as well, though, including in-state guard Melvin McBride, tackle Bryce Benhart and North Carolina tackle Damarcus Mills.

Pruitt is bringing in the type of recruits we haven't seen in Knoxville in a long time. These OL are all clearly prototype NFL OLinemen. Not dudes that look like TEs that we hope we can develop by their JR year. Very impressed.
